Show full synopsis After the demise of Monty Python's Flying Circus (BBC, 1969-74), Eric Idle swiftly returned to the small screen with this witty broadcasting spoof. The title was suggested by John Cleese , a favour for which Idle paid him £1. In Idle's conceit, Rutland (Britain's smallest county, which had disappeared in a 1974 local government reorganisation) begins producing its own programmes on a shoestring budget not dissimilar to Idle 's own (£30,000 for the series; the cost of one Lulu show). National parks media release archive Bushfires around Glen Innes contained by timely action Media release - 23/01/2003 A number of bushfires which started around Glen Innes were quickly contained by fire fighters this week. NPWS staff attended two fires believed to have started from lightning strikes during storms which passed over the region on Monday. Acting Area Manager with the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) at Glen Innes, Neil Reckord, said that only one fire was on NPWS-managed land - Torrington State Conservation Area. The other fires were on private land in the Kingsgate and Ruwenzorie areas. "Under current drought conditions all fires have the potential to become large if not contained quickly. The Kingsgate fire was contained through direct attack by local volunteer brigades, local land holders and the NPWS", Mr Reckord said. "NPWS used remote crews supported by helicopters to attack the fire in Torrington", he said.

A Hard DayÕs Week The Chicago and Liverpool Beatles Conventions I have now been going to Beatles Conventions for 20 years - but during that time I have never attended two in the same week! However, in August I got my chance. I was invited to attend the Chicago Beatlefest - which just happened to be just a week before the Liverpool Beatleweek. I therefore went to both. This is my very personal story of that ÔHard DayÕs Week!Õ I arrived in Chicago from California. I had been there to scatter my wifeÕs ashes. Esther died from breast cancer last year and California was her favourite place. We found an amazing spot just south of Carmel. I always knew it was going to be an emotional time and wanted to do something fun afterwards. Therefore I decided to combine the trip to California with a trip to Beatlefest. The ÔFest was being held at the Hyatt Regency OÕHare Hotel - right by the airport. It is a very modern business hotel - well suited for Beatlefest with a huge ballroom and many other function rooms. After a day of sightseeing in downtown Chicago and resting up a bit after California I was more than ready for the start of Beatlefest. I was at Beatlefest as a guest speaker and my first main task was to be interviewed on stage alongside other Beatle authors including Paul Saltzman, who wrote the ÔBeatles in RishikeshÕ book and my good friend and Beatlefan contributor Jorie Gracen. Even though IÕd done a similar thing in New York it was still pretty nerve-wracking being onstage in the massive ballroom. I was very glad that the interviewer was Terri Hemmert - a veteran of Beatlefest, whom I had met in London on my Beatles walks. Terri is a great MC and put us all at ease.
