'FINDING THE STILLNESS'
The X-Files Lexicon's Exclusive Interview with Doug Hutchison.
Interview questionnaire conducted between 11/24 - 11/28/06.
By Matt Allair
Many actors regard the work as a journey; there's no single clear-cut method for achieving the final result. Actor Doug Hutchison seems to have an understanding that a narrow approach does not often breed that desired final result in certain cases. The opportunity to interview Doug Hutchison had been a long time desire. Upon researching prior to this interview, I found Doug to be good-natured, with an eccentric quality, altruistic, refreshingly candid, as well as having an intuitive spiritual philosophy. Doug's career arc was helped along by appearing in the third episode of the X-Files first season episode, Squeeze . The experience even compelled him to write his own sequel, "Dark He Was and Golden-eyed". A creative effort that must of triggered enough good karma to compel writers Glen Morgan and James Wong to write the sequel, Tooms . Special thanks must go to Doug's personal assistant, MC, and as well the webmaster of Doug Hutchison's official site, Kelly Kruschel, who was enthusiastically supportive of my efforts to secure the interview. Thanks must also go to the tireless efforts of the Lexicon's own editor, XScribe.

    Biography
Although he was familiar to sci-fi aficionados for his work on TV's "The X-Files" and "Space: Above and Beyond", actor Doug Hutchison came to the attention of filmgoers with his star-making turn as the petulant, venal prison guard Percy Wetmore in Frank Darabont's screen adaptation of Stephen King's "The Green Mile" (1999).
Although born in Delaware, Hutchison was raised in the Midwest in Michigan and Minnesota and began his performing career in high school and local community theater. He moved to NYC to attend Juilliard but dropped out after several months and instead studied acting with noted teacher Sanford Meisner. Following years of stage work in regional theaters and off-off- and off-Broadway productions, Hutchison made his film debut in 1988's "Fresh Horses". Although he initially resisted a move to California, the actor eventually relocated realizing that there were more opportunities for TV and film roles there. Bit parts and small roles in film and TV led up to his first major exposure with a chilling guest appearance as serial killer Eugene Victor Tooms in a 1993 episode of Fox's "The X-Files". The diminutive actor proved so popular, the character was revived for a follow-up show the following season.
James Wong and Glen Morgan, the writer-producers of "The X-Files" who created Tooms, remembered the actor when they were working on the Fox series "Space: Above and Beyond" and "Millennium" and created the recurring villainous roles of silicate Elroy El in the former and the Polaroid Man in the latter especially for Hutchison.

My relative silence on the topic of late might have conveyed the impression that it had fallen, predictably and with an audible clang, by the wayside. Not so, my little chickadees. In fact, such has been my determination of late that the blog has been left behind, rather. Things are definitely improving. I find myself nicely immersed in an amusing little world at the moment. TalkMagic they do, and I listen, piping up only occasionally.

Little Known School of Economic Thought by Carole E. Scott Dr. Carole E. Scott is a Professor of Economics at the State University of West Georgia and Editor of Business Quest. Suggested way to use linked text It was long thought that such events as water dripping from a faucet and the fibrillation of the heart were random and unpredictable events. These and similar events can be modeled mathematically via non-linear equations, but before the introduction of high speed computers solving these equations was not feasible because of the enormous number of calculations that were necessary. Once computers were used to model these events, it was learned that some contain patterns. Out of this work arose a new theory, chaos theory and a new geometry, fractal , a geometry of algorithms , rather than the lines and circles of Euclidean geometry. Economists became interested in chaos theory when Benoit Mandlebrot, a French mathematician, applied fractal analysis to seemingly random, historical cotton prices and found clear evidence of similar patterns in daily, weekly, and monthly cotton price changes. Subsequently this analysis was applied to exchange rates and other economic events. In Chaos and Order in Capital Markets , Edgar Peters contends that chaos theory is a far superior framework for examining the stock and bond markets than the efficient markets hypothesis . Some, however, take issue with Peters.

Smooth Sailing on the Salton Sea
    by Staci Layne Wilson
    (Originally published by Fantastica Daily)
Warner Brothers and Castle-Rock have set up in the lovely Beverly Hills Four Seasons again, a favorite place for press junkets. Today I'm covering The Salton Sea, which stars Val Kilmer. The valet takes my small sports car, pretzeling himself into the space between my seat and steering wheel; moving the seat is a no-no at the chi-chi hotel of the rich, famous and probably sometimes temperamental. I make my way to the Burton Room, where I check in with studio personnel and get my parking validated. I'm too late for lunch, and there is no goody bag to peruse, so I head for my assigned room where the "round tables" will take place. For those of you not in the know, journalists who work in print, radio, or the internet spend several hours broken up into small groups at separate tables, while the talent (the stars, the director, and sometimes a producer and a screenwriter) move from one table to the next, giving each group 15 to 30 minutes. The Salton Sea is a smaller movie, only coming out in New York and L.A. at first, then gradually going wider (a method of release called "platforming"), so there are fewer than usual journalists at each table in separate matchbox-sized rooms. This is a good thing, as far as we're concerned. We've all seen the movie (or should have). General consensus on The Salton Sea is positive; some of the journalists have read things into it that I have not, and most loved the scene I especially disliked (more on that later), but we are pretty much in agreement: it's a good movie, but hard to market. Noir is greatly respected, but not especially popular in the big screen popcorn world. The Salton Sea follows the sometimes comic but mostly grotesque and surreal misadventures of Kilmer as Danny Parker, a tortured man searching for the ruthless murderers of his wife. The affable jazz musician is turned into a tattooed, spiky-haired meth-addict as he slips into the world where his unsuspecting nemeses live and lurk.

    Investors contract Bendigo gold fever
    Reporter: Geoff Hutchinson
KERRY O'BRIEN: The great exploration of Victoria's Bendigo goldfields lasted more than 100 years, produced 22 million ounces of gold, helped underwrite Australia's early wealth generation, and wrote its own colourful chapter of our history.
But by 1954, labour was getting more expensive, the gold price had been pegged and companies decided to cut their losses and close the mines.
No-one doubted that deep beneath the city there was still plenty of gold-bearing quartz.
And now, after years of exploration and mapping, the Bendigo Mining Company has raised $115 million from predominantly international investors, to begin the search again.
    Geoff Hutchison reports.
GEOFF HUTCHISON: The city of Bendigo sits on foundations of gold, great reefs of quartz which yielded the richest of treasures.
And that gold built a confident, handsome city of ornate Victorian architecture and elegant public buildings but those who worked the mines enjoyed few of its rewards.
