sandy rated it: bookshelves: bookclub never-finished non-fiction Read in May, 2007 139/280 Wow, this was so painful to read, that at times I even preferred writing my thesis than reading it. It is easy to read, but just not interesting. All you ever wanted to know about the history of the oyster industry in New York and loads more. The highlights are an oyster recipe written in Middle English, and describing eating New York oysters so large that it was like eating babies. Some interesting knick-knack information interspersed, but too few and far in between with oyster fact oids that are just not that interesting. I guess I am biased because I really dislike oysters as well.

3-point shootout: On the mark
Spear is a sharp shooter

By Mike Lipka / Daily News Correspondent
Sunday, February 20, 2005
WAYLAND They say the weather is difficult to predict in New England. But the rain showers that came pouring down on a sunny day at Wayland High School yesterday? Those were completely unforeseen.
It was Hopedale junior Cole Spear who opened the skies with his high, arcing shot that splashed through net more often than not, making him the champion of the 19th annual Daily News/MetroWest YMCA 3-point Shootout.
The 6-foot 5-inch Spear outdueled Milford senior Greg Long 8-6 in the finals, using the first-year 2-point money ball to make the difference and completing a day in which he buried 36 of 65 shots from downtown.
"I just felt comfortable throughout the morning when we were warming up," said Spear, the first-ever Hopedale player, boy or girl, to win the shootout. "I just stuck with what worked."
In the end, that was the money ball, which not only earned him the title, but got him to the finals in the first place. Going second in the semifinals after Millis' Chris Santos (a player who drilled six threes in Friday night's win over Ashland), Spear canned the final shot to give him eight points - enough to beat Santos' seven and get him to the finals against Long.

Abstract
Desire for hastened death in patients with advanced disease and the evidence base of clinical guidelines: a systematic review. Patients' desire for hastened death within the context of advanced disease and palliative care is a controversial topic, frequently discussed in the international literature. Much of the discussion has focused on opinion and debate about ethical matters related to hastened death. Not many research studies seem to have specifically targeted why palliative care patients may desire hastened death, and few have focused on clinical guidelines for responding to such requests. Using a systematic literature review process, we evaluated the research evidence related to the reasons patients express a desire for a hastened death, and the quality of clinical guidelines in this area.

An Anarchist in the Hudson Valley
    In Conversation: Peter Lamborn Wilson
    with Jennifer Bleyer
    July 2004
Moises Saman, "Dust Storm During War, Baghdad, March 2003" (2004). Lamda print.
    This is War,
It’s been nearly ten years since Peter Lamborn Wilson—née Hakim Bey—looked at the pitiably state-bound, rule-bound world around him and asked: "Are we who live in the present doomed never to experience autonomy, never to stand for one moment on a bit of land ruled only by freedom?" In a slim, rattling volume called Temporary Autonomous Zone,
Wilson rightly became celebrated as a kind of urban prophet. It was an identity to add the others he bears seamlessly and without contradiction: anarchist, poet, public intellectual, psychedelic explorer, artist, social critic, Sufi mystic. Six years ago he moved upstate from the East Village to New Paltz, New York. The setting is different, but the ideas have only deepened—notably his critique of global capital and "technological determination." In his green wood-frame house, trees rustling overhead and birds chirping outside, we drank tea and talked.
Jennifer Bleyer: Peter Lamborn Wilson: So for a few years the artists and their friends came up here and got bargains and moved in, and now artists’ studios in Beacon sell for a quarter-million dollars. And we’re talking about a one-room building on a half-acre lot. You want a house? Half-a-million. Do you know any artists who can afford that? The point is that there’s a lot of boosterism for the arts in the Hudson Valley because there’s no other economy. It’s either that or "green tourism," which in my mind is a disgusting term and something that I don’t want to see promoted in any way. It’s a commodification of nature, turning nature into a source of profit for the managerial caste in the Hudson Valley. That’s not the solution I’m interested in.

In 1970, at age twenty five, the Dallas-born welder was included in the Whitney annual. He betrays his vintage in terms of formalist sensibility and ambition, but he bucked a prevailing trend that led most of his contemporaries along an inevitable road to reduction. His avowed aim to make art that's "as full as possible," is amply borne out by his work, with its "everything but the kitchen sink" exuberance. A small show of recent pieces in a courtyard at the Hudson River Museum, Yonkers is definitely worth an excursion.

    By R. L. Williams
Page 3 Peter James Hudson was born October 10, 1861, at the old Missionary School building built by Cyrus Byington at or near Eagletown in the Choctaw Nation. He died at Indian Hospital at Talihina, October 21, 1938. His funeral was held on October 23, 1938, in the Choctaw Council House, and he was buried at the Tuskahoma cemetery near Choctaw Council House on the same day. He was enrolled as a full-blood, his Choctaw Roll number being 5483, although in fact he was a three-quarter blood Indian of a non-English speaking Choctaw family, his grandfather being a white man whose antecedents and Christian name are not disclosed. He married on August 16, 1891, Amanda J. Bohanon, the daughter of S. H. Bohanon, a Presbyterian minister, and his wife, Margaret. He was the son of James Hudson and his wife Ah-ho-bo-tema, who, in Mississippi, was a member of the Aphika clan. In a letter as to his boyhood Peter Hudson states: ". . . my occupation was to work little on 48 acre farm, to kill birds with bow and arrow, hunt deer, turkey, coon, 'possum, skunk, beavers, fox with old muskets which we picked up after Confederate soldiers throw them away when Civil War was over; played regular Choctaw ball game; nature provided for our wants in hogs and cattle; ponies to ride; these stock took care of themselves in winter in
