Doug was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Award on October 16, 2006. In May of 2007, Doug defended his Ph.D. thesis. He is conducting post-doctoral work at Harvard University. Chris Drummond Chris entered the PhD program in 2000 after receiving a BS in Biology from the University of Maryland in 2000 and an AB in Semiotics from Brown University in 1993. His research interests are in the ecology, evolution and genetics of plants under the direction of Prof. Matthew Hamilton. In collaboration with Prof. Martha Weiss, his work focused on the genetic architecture of floral color change in the genus Lupinus , using AFLP and microsatellite markers to construct a linkage map for QTL mapping of floral phenotypes. Just four years later, the AJGA has assisted 128 junior across the country. Rolex Watch signed on as the inaugural Founding Partner to the ACE Grant program and in 2007, Polo Golf is joining Rolex Watch as a Founding Partner. During the past season, the ACE Grant program provided financial assistance to 60 junior golfers, helping them compete in 162 tournaments and 57 qualifiers. To continue combating the costs of playing a national junior golf schedule for players without the financial resources, the AJGA will begin accepting applications February 1 for the 2007 season. Tournament Final Four Finishes The following record lists Wake Forest Debate teams that reached the semi-finals or finals of various tournaments. Any such list has the weakness of missing folks who were important to Wake Debate history, often excelling competitively, reaching the quarter-finals of major national tournaments. Lyle Scruggs , a professor at the University of Connecticut at the time of this writing, is mentioned as a representative of this distinguished group. Only listing teams reaching semi-finals or better keeps the list manageable but necessarily leaves out hundreds of superior efforts which are part of Wake's debate legacy. Listing Wake Forest winners is a dubious task at best. Record keeping varied dramatically from era to era and locating results was often dependent on the excellent and sometimes capricious coverage in the Old Gold and Black. The task is further complicated by not being able to define precisely when "tournaments" began, knowing what four team divisions represented for the individuals involved, and tournaments changing names and/or locations.
