Fletcher not getting the Blues Last Updated: Wed, 16 Jan 2008 12:09 Birmingham target Darren Fletcher has spoken of his desire to fight for his future with Premiership champions Manchester United. Reports had suggested that McLeish had targeted Fletcher, who he knows well from his days at Scotland head coach, to beef up his squad. But the 23-year-old has insisted he has no desire to leave Old Trafford and is desperate to become a permanent fixture in Sir Alex Ferguson's engine room. "I am still happy playing for Manchester United and I am not thinking of going elsewhere," he told the club's official website. "I never heard anything about Birmingham being interested, I just know I want to be here for a long time. "My only focus is on being ready when the manager needs me and being able to perform for the club when asked." Fletcher faces stiff competition from new signings Anderson and Owen Hargeaves as well as veteran Paul Scholes and utility man Jhn O'Shea for the central midfield shirt. However, he is not about to give up the fight and feels he will get his share of games as the season unfolds. | |
