Recently, I became the unexpected winner of the 1st Annual Buffalo City Championship with an undefeated 4-0-1 score in one of the strongest fields of national masters, experts, and category A players that Buffalo has witnessed in years. Afterwards, I was surprised to be met outside the tournament hall by a deluge of flashing cameras and eager reporters from the local media asking all sorts of questions relating to how it felt to win the title and what strategies I employed throughout the two day event. I was even more surprised to find my picture on the front page of The Buffalo News the following day. And later I was even invited by Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown to receive a citation and the Mayor’s Cup. However, I missed the ceremony because I was at the World Open in King of Prussia!
Now although all of this attention was nice I remembered a quote by Isaac Newton: “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” And personally I have always maintained that no one ever accomplishes anything on their own. The same goes for my recent tournament victory where two of my most memorable games involved superior opponents who have contributed much to my chess development over the years. They are NM Lionel Davis and NM Barry Davis. And although they are not related they are both legendary giants of chess in Buffalo where, over the years, there has been the emergence of no fewer than six strong national masters and scores of expert level and category A players. (Remarkable for a small city with no formal chess club or large tournaments)

Without input from Howard and Mark, this site would consist of two pages, a brief history of The Turtles, and a partial discography (which is actually how the web site started out). Q: About the email: Who really reads it? A: - All email addressed to The Turtles ( either goes to both Flo(Mark) in L.A. and Eddie(Howard) in Seattle, or to the particular band member to whom it was addressed. - Any email addressed to goes to Mark. - Any email addressed to goes to Howard. Q: What did you think of Frank Zappa? Whatever happened between you guys and Frank? Did you remain friends? A: Howard "Frank was an icon for a generation, and a true genius...also one of the greatest guitar players...." Howard Yes, we DID see Frank after the Rainbow Theatre accident...It took a while, but Frank sat in with us in NYC at the Bottom Line one year, and we sat in with his band in Detroit the year after...." "Toward the end, we became good friends again, going up to his famous studio and watching our old concert footage; laughing about the good old days. He knew that the clock was ticking but he kept chain-smoking, coffee drinking and eating anchovy pizza...The man was one of the few real geniuses I've ever had the honor to work with."

Acclaimed NFL color commentator in Green Bay, " Doc Barnett" pontificates daily on the need to redesign the gridiron into a dodecahedron in order to spread the values of American football to places like Botswana and Montenegro ( Barnett's webmaster, Sean of Interdict , embarrasses his boss regularly with simple grammatical errors and odd uses of syntax).

(Director of Scouting of the LA Angels)
By Chuck Richter - Senior Editor
Eddie Bane the Angels' scouting director and a former top pitching prospect himself as a standout pitcher for the Sun Devils from 1971-73, Eddie anchored two College World Series runner-up teams, in 1972 and 1973. His college accolades read like a laundry list of virtually every honor possible: A first-team All American, an All-College World Series selection, the 1973 Sporting News Player of the Year and later, a first-round draft pick. More specifically, Eddie led the ASU pitching staff to the tune of 130 strikeouts and a 2.18 era in 1971, 213 strikeouts and a 0.99 era in 1972, and 192 strikeouts in 1973. Over time, his accomplishments have proven to be timeless. Eddie's numbers are as phenomenal today as they were some 25 years ago. He still owns several ASU pitching records, including the single-season record of 43 consecutive scoreless innings in 1972. He posted a school record 0.99 era and 7 shutouts that same year. His 505 strikeouts top the Sun Devil career charts, and he owns the great distinction of throwing the only perfect game in ASU baseball history. For you trivia buffs, it was against Cal State Northridge on March 2, 1973.

The castling question
Korchnoi confirmed he did ask the question at that point, explaining that the Russian chess rules left the situation a little ambiguous, and it was the first time the situation had occurred in his games. Considering the levels of tension surrounding the match and this game in particular, Korchnoi thought it best to confirm with the match referee before making the move.
Korchnoi was in a jovial mood throughout the morning, reminiscing with various players about games played years ago. In that simultaneous exhibition that Korchnoi lost a game to the very young Nigel Short, both Malcolm Pein and Nigel Davies were playing in the exhibition.
I decided to stay for the lecture. Korchnoi delivered a talk that covered the events and players during his career. His frankness and honesty is refreshing, and offers a unique perspective on circumstances. His talk covered three chess games, and coincidentally, one of them was a quick win against a Grandmaster - a certain Anatoly Karpov, game 21 of the Candidates Final of 1974!
Becoming a Soviet Grandmaster
Korchnoi refers to his career as a series of second attempts. Nothing is achieved on the first attempt, and the second attempt is always successful. On his second attempt he won the Junior USSR Championship. In the first attempt, it was Petrosian who walked away with the title.

Eddie Taylor, Attorney at Law A NEW KIND OF LAW FIRM
I am firmly committed to expanding affordable legal representation to those in need. The mission of my law firm is to encourage individuals who have been wronged – and who failed to secure legal representation because of financial constraints - to seek my advice and counsel. Justice should not only be available to the wealthy.
Edward (“Eddie”) Mark Taylor was born in Silver Spring, Maryland on September 10, 1979. After graduating from Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland in 1997, he attended the University of Maryland in College Park. As an undergraduate student, he became politically active locally (with the Student Government Association) and nationally (by organizing student-led activities for former Sen. Bill Bradley’s presidential campaign). In 2000, he graduated cum laude, earned the University’s Honors Citation, and was chosen as the outstanding Government and Politics student to carry the Gonfalon at commencement.
After completing his undergraduate studies, Eddie attended the University of Maryland, School of Law in Baltimore, Maryland from 2001 to 2004. While in law school, he represented clients in a variety of employment law matters (i.e. Wage and Hour, wrongful termination, employment discrimination, contract disputes) for several Washington, D.C. area law firms and his law school’s clinical law program. He sat for the bar exam in July 2004 and was sworn in for admittance to the Maryland Bar on December 15, 2004.
