Michael Douglas Coe 1929 - Present Michael Douglas Coe, an archaeologist, is well recognized for his superb work and writing systems in the field of the ethno history of Mesoamerica, in the historical archaeology of northeastern United States Dr. Coe was born in New York New York on March 14, 1929. In 1955, he married Sophie Dobzhansky . Together, they have five children: Nicholas, Andrea, Sarah, Peter and Natalie. After graduating from Harvard University with a doctorate in Anthropology, Dr. Coe began as an Assistant Professor at University of Tennessee Breaking the Mayan Decipherment .
