Kirk Douglas was born into poverty the son of Jewish Russian immigrants as Issur Danielovitch Demsky on December 9, 1916 in Amsterdam, New York. He used his great talent to climb to the highest pinnacle of Hollywood stardom. He is convincing in both sympathetic and unsympathetic parts where his chiseled features, easy smile, distinctive voice, and famous cleft chin can suggest mirth or menace. His multi layered performances are passionate. He waited tables to put himself through St. Lawrence University where he was a champion wrestler and did theater work. He became a professional wrestler and held numerous jobs to pay his way through the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He had small roles on Broadway before serving in the Navy in World War II. During their enthusiastic sex sessions, "she would scream, 'I'm a Nazi!' - which was his cue to slap her, which he did, Douglas writes. He also remembers getting deflowered in high school by his English teacher. "I had been a ragamuffin kid of 15 coping with a neighborhood filled with gangs . . . under her guidance I became a different person . . . I am eternally grateful. By today's standards she would have gone to jail. I had no idea we were doing something wrong. Did she?" Douglas didn't stop at his teacher. He also wanted to bed a "beautiful young redhead" who sat in front of him, and wrote her a drippy, Shakespeare-like sonnet that ended: "Bewitched by a vision so fair, I reach out and touch your hair; happily you turn and smile at me, and change my humble state to ecstasy." Despite his stab at "bad poetry," it worked, and "I got the girl," Douglas writes.

Spartacus Douglas donated 60 boxes to the center in the 1960s after then-director Tino Balio approached him about entrusting his legacy to UW-Madison. Balio, now an emeritus professor of communication arts, made the university a major player in the world of film archives with the acquisition of the massive United Artists collection, which includes every film released by Warner Bros., RKO and Monogram Studios between 1930 and 1950. C'est donc dans ce but que j'ai décidé de créer http://kirk.douglas.free.fr. Mais c'est aussi car j'admire la carrière de ce géant du cinéma. Je l'ai découvert dans "Les vikings" et depuis je n'ai eu de cesse de rechercher ses nombreux films. Afin de partager ma passion avec les internautes, j'ai créé ce site. Actualités et Mises à jour Décembre 2007 4000 visites en moins d'une année, voilà un record que je n'aurais jamais imaginé. Merci à tous les admirateurs de Kirk Douglas, et en particulier à tous ceux qui reviennent régulièrement et qui laisse un mot dans le livre d'or. A noter que le 9 décembre dernier, Kirk Douglas a fêté ses 91 ans !
