You might even argue that the Serious Games Initiative serious in education, not fun. A New Generation of Learning , where we have been exploring the infrastructure institutions will need to create engaging education on the road ahead. Our overarching premise is that all too often we separate physical infrastructure from virtual infrastructure ( remember this commentary ), and that if we truly want to combine them we need to consider things like blended learning, social networking, gaming, high-impact presentation technologies, mobility, analytics, and mindful high-touch connection strategies. Coming out of these discussions was a great example from Kathleen. She is a doctoral student at Pepperdine University, which has leveraged these types of tools in her learning experiences. They have a virtual classroom in which they meet in Second Life , they do extensive virtual work for remote students around the country, and they even let her demonstrate her learning using YouTube . David Ragan was officially named as Mark Martin's replacement in the faned #6 Roush Racing Ford on Wednesday following weeks of speculation as to which of Roush's development driver were most ready to the colossal leap to NASCAR Nextel Cup competition. And Roush chose the one who is arguably the least ready. David Ragan has split time with Mark Martin in the Craftsman Truck Series, and has filled in for Danny O'Quinn on several occasions in the Busch Series. Ragan has qualified for one Nextel Cup race, and was no more impressive than Todd Kluever in his handful of Cup starts. Better yet, if you're still mulling the concept, NotchUp has a quick calculator that estimates what you should charge. In my case, it spit out $1,830. (And to think prior to this discovery I could be had for grande non-fat latte.) As a high-growth company that depends on both contigency and retained recruiters, I believe there is a lot of room for cost efficiency improvement in the recruitng process in corporate America. Now, scientists hope that phenomena could lead to the development of new fire extinguishers that would be useful, say, in a spacecraft or terrestrially to avoid water damage from sprinklers. First though, they need to figure out why exactly sound can snuff fire. Most likely, the sound wave causes a drop in pressure that extinguishes the flame. From Scientific American: In 2004 Dmitriy Plaks and several of his fellow students at the University of West Georgia tested whether sound waves can douse fires in hopes of using sound to extinguish flames in a spacecraft. They placed a candle in a large topless chamber with three bass speakers attached to the walls. The candle was lit and the Canadian rock band Nickelback's "How you remind me" was pumped through the subwoofers.
