Bob's Cranium "I don't smoke, I don't drink. Two out of three ain't bad." Updated February 2005 Wow. Too much information. Loads of help with this story, a popular request. Thanks especially to Kevin Hassell, my right hand man at Findadeath. Much photography and information from a friend, Courtney, and Nick. Bob Crane started out in show business as a disk jockey, and was also a very good drummer, having wanted to be a musician when he was younger. His son Bob Jr. is a musician as well. They say that Bob was offered the Jack Paar slot on the Tonight Show , but refused. He is best known as the star of the hit TV series, Hogan’s Heroes He is also well known for being the victim of a brutal murder, which as of 26 years later, remains unsolved.
In June of 1978, Crane was in Scottsdale, Arizona, on tour with a play. This play, Beginner’s Luck , was appearing at the Windmill Dinner Theater , which is now a nightclub called Buzz . After Hogan’s Heroes ended in 1971, Crane had found himself typecast, and had a hard time finding steady work. He had starred in The Bob Crane Show , after Heroes , but that ended after a short run. He had also done a Disney movie

Similar units in the complex sold for around $100,000. 6-98. In the afternoon of June 29, 1978, actress Victoria Berry knocked on the door to apartment 132A at the Winfield Apartments. She expected her knock to be answered by former TV star Bob Crane. There was no answer. She pushed the open the unlocked door and went inside. There she found his half naked body lying in bed. His face was so badly beaten that he was unrecognizable from the left side. An electric cord was wrapped around his neck. With his murder, Bob Crane received the publicity which he had desperately sought during the seven years following the cancellation of his television series. Until the prison camp closed, Crane had enjoyed the media attention that spurred on a constantly rising career.

Fitzgerald: A tribute to Robert D. Crane
Former Nixon aide Robert D. Crane Islam is quite different from what the naïve revert may think. Those who are born into Islam and have managed to defect or escape are intellectually and morally superior people. These include Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Ibn Warraq and Ali Sina and Azam Kamguian and Irfan Khawaja and a great many more. In those ranks I would also place those who, largely out of filial piety, continue to call themselves "cultural Muslims" or even, in the case of Magdi Allam, "Muslims." By contrast, aren't so many "reverts," from Leopold Weiss (Mustafa As'ad) to St. John Philby to John Walker Lindh and David Hicks and Richard Reid and Yvonne Ridley, just a little, or a very great deal, off? Above is one explanation, a more innocent one, for the behavior of this bizarre representative of Islam, Robert D. Crane. Another, more sinister explanation, is that Crane wishes to keep up a collective game of "Let's Pretend." Let's tell Muslims there is nothing wrong with Islam; let's tell Muslims that yes, they are right, the "real" Islam is swell, and there is nothing to worry about. And in so doing, of course, we are also forced to tell another audience ourselves, the audience of Infidels the same soothing untruths, soothing and dangerous. We will then, presumably, not be sufficiently alert and wary to protect ourselves from, inter alia, the Money Weapon, campaigns of Da'wa, and demographic conquest.

B C ... Your Ad Here The Seedy World of Bob Crane, TV's Colonel Hogan Robert Edward Crane was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on July 13th, 1928. In his early teens, he was demonstrating musical talent and had set his sights on becoming a drummer, fantasizing about becoming the next Buddy Rich. At age sixteen, he began drumming for the Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, but was let go after two years for "clowning around during a Bach fugue." He married his high school sweetheart, Anne Terzian, in 1949. They would eventually have three children: Robert David, Deborah Ann, and Karen Leslie. Crane began his career in radio-in WLEA in Hornell, New York, WBIS in Briston, Connecticut, WICC in Bridgeport, and Boston's WEEI. His success in the east led to an offer for him to move in 1956 to Los Angeles and host the morning show at KNX. There he became known as "The King of the Los Angeles Airwaves." His show filled the broadcast booth with sly wit, drums, and often, movie stars. His show was the number-one rated morning show in LA and stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, were guests. But Crane had a higher ambition, and pursued acting opportunities. He subbed for Johnny Carson on "Who Do You Trust?" (and turned down the chance to be Carson's replacement), and acted on shows like "The Twilight Zone," "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," and "General Electric Theater." When Carl Reiner guested on the KNX show, Crane persuaded him to book him on "The Dick Van Dyke Show" in 1961. This was where Donna Reed saw him and cast him in the recurring role as neighbor Dr. Dave Kelsey (1963-1965). He also acted small roles in the dramatic films "Return to Peyton Place" and "Man-Trap."

As a concept for a TV situation comedy, it was outrageous. But someone actually proposed setting a sitcom in a Nazi POW camp. The idea could not have been more bizarre. After all, World War II was one of the world’s bloodiest, most heartbreaking conflicts in history. Nazism was one of the most terrible scourges to afflict humanity. How could interactions between Nazis and their American soldier prisoners possibly be funny Yet they were on Hogan’s Heroes . The program zoomed to the top of popularity. It was simply hysterical watching the sly and witty Americans best their bumbling, foolish, German captors. Part of the appeal of Hogan’s Heroes was undoubtedly its star, Bob Crane, a handsome actor with a broad, open face and twinkling eyes.

Bob Crane starred on the hit 1960's sitcom Hogan's Heroes , which ran in prime time from 1965 to 1971. The show was set in a World War II prisoner of war camp in Germany; Crane played Colonel Robert Hogan, a crafty POW leader who constantly outwitted his bumbling Nazi guards. (The cast included Richard Dawson as a British POW and John Banner as the buffoonish Sergeant Schultz.) Crane is also notorious for his mysterious death in Scottsdale, Arizona on 29 June 1978. Crane was found bludgeoned to death in his own motel room, and investigations revealed that Crane had a racy personal life which included a habit of videotaping his encounters with various women. Crane's friend John Carpenter (no relation to the movie director by that name) was later tried for the crime but found not guilty, and the murder remains officially unsolved. Krazed psychotic obsessive take on bob crane and Hogan s Heroes with the biggest list of collectibles ever assembled.
    http://www.nokilli.com/hogan/bob.html
Bob spelled backwards is boB What the hell's the obsession with Bob Crane, you ask? I love Bob Crane, and everything around him. But let me tell you a bit about me. Hogan's Heroes is my favorite show, but I loved Small Wonder and the only new show I watch on teevee now is Seventh Heaven . I loved loved loved Cop Rock. I only wish I had it on tape. It's more than just an obsession with bad teevee, my favorite record is Ballad of the Green Berets by Sgt. Barry Sadler. One day, this spot will be taken up by a truly worthy rant of all thing profane and beautiful and Bob and Crane. It goes beyond his seedy background as musician (a drummer, the dumbest musicians of all). Everyone knows musicians ain't right in the head. It's more than a simple unsolved bludgeoning with wacky zany sex. And don't think this is some dumb tongue-in-cheek Johnny-come-lately, type thing. I've been obsessed with Bob for my whole damned life. I remember EXACTLY where and what I was doing, when the news broke. I cried, at the tender age of 8, a mere three months after my birthday. Sat around my granny's house out in Orangevale and cried. That's the day the music stopped. I cried (and still cry) more for poor Bob's death than I did for my own mother. My mom didn't raise me, the teevee did and the teevee show of choice for all discerning people is Hogan's Heroes!
