George Carlin - A place for my stuff
Actually this is just a place for my stuff, ya know? That's all, a little place for my stuff. That's all I want, that's all you need in life, is a little place for your stuff, ya know? I can see it on your table, everybody's got a little place for their stuff. This is my stuff, that's your stuff, that'll be his stuff over there.
That's all you need in life, a little place for your stuff. That's all your house is: a place to keep your stuff. If you didn't have so much stuff, you wouldn't need a house. You could just walk around all the time. A house is just a pile of stuff with a cover on it. You can see that when you're taking off in an airplane. You look down, you see everybody's got a little pile of stuff. All the little piles of stuff. And when you leave your house, you gotta lock it up. Wouldn't want somebody to come by and take some of your stuff. They always take the good stuff. They never bother with that crap you're saving. All they want is the shiny stuff. That's what your house is, a place to keep your stuff while you go out and get...more stuff! Sometimes you gotta move, gotta get a bigger house. Why? No room for your stuff anymore. Did you ever notice when you go to somebody else's house, you never quite feel a hundred percent at home? You know why? No room for your stuff. Somebody else's stuff is all over the goddamn place! And if you stay overnight, unexpectedly, they give you a little bedroom to sleep in. Bedroom they haven't used in about eleven years. Someone died in it, eleven years ago. And they haven't moved any of his stuff! Right next to the bed there's usually a dresser or a bureau of some kind, and there's NO ROOM for your stuff on it. Somebody else's s- is on the dresser. Have you noticed that their stuff is s- and your s- is stuff? God! And you say, "Get that s- offa there and let me put my stuff down!"

Carlin's got his act together, on stage and off
By Larry Getlen Compared to George Carlin, Chicken Little was an optimist. If Carlin met a man wearing rose-colored glasses, he'd rip them from the man's face, crack them in half and fling them across the room. The point, in case you missed it, is that Carlin can be a bit of a pessimist. According to Carlin, who by his own admission roots for society to destroy itself, our demise has not only begun, but is almost complete. By his thinking, humanity has plunged itself into the abyss of eternal damnation, destroyed its environment, allowed itself to be led astray by "the traders and high priests" (read: business and religion), mired itself in senseless belief systems and unworkable governmental and religious structures, and blinded itself with piety and greed and nonsense to the point where its eyes see all but its own enveloping free fall. If George Carlin wasn't hysterically funny, he'd be a real bummer at parties.

For more information call the Orleans Showroom Box Office at 702-365-7075 Leading stand-up comic and occasional actor since the late 1960s, this veteran performer evolved from a suit-clad, clean-cut social observer to a shaggy countercultural commentator to a grizzled survivor of numerous trends in American comedy. Carlin started out as a radio disc jockey while serving in the US Air Force in Shreveport LA. Working with a partner, he began as a night club comedian in 1960 before striking out on his own two years later. Carlin made his first TV appearance as a guest on "The Merv Griffin Show" in 1965. His childhood dream of becoming an actor began to materialize with a recurring role as an agent for actress Ann Marie (Marlo Thomas) on the sitcom "That Girl" in the 1966-67 season. Work followed in a summer variety vehicle for John Davidson and a feature supporting role in "With Six You Get Eggroll" (1968). Though he may be best known for creating the amiably freaky Hippy Dippy Weatherman and controversial routines like "Seven Words You Can Never Say on TV"the playing of which resulted in NYC public radio station WBAI getting censured and fined by the FCC in the 70smuch of Carlin's humor consists of rather gentle observations of the absurdities of everyday life and language and reminiscences of a working-class Irish upbringing in NYC.

An advocate of sun worship (the prayer answer rate remains the same and no one is asking for money) and irreverent social commentary, George Carlin is considered one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time. Often cited as a major influence on the today's young comedians, Carlin's sense of humor has opened minds and tickled funny bones since the 1960s. george-carlin document.write('Help');

Introduction to Murder At the Conspiracy Convention
by George Carlin Funnier than Danny Kaye, more powerful than Jerry Lewis, as important as
acid. That was Paul Krassner to me during the 1960s. I'll explain.
As America entered the Magic Decade, I was leading a double life. I had
been a rule-bender and law-breaker since first grade. A highly developed
disregard for authority got me kicked out of three schools, the altar boys,
the police or the government, and I didn't like bosses of any kind. I had
become a pot smoker at 13 (1950), an unheard-of act in an old-fashioned
Irish neighborhood. It managed to get me through my teens.
But my career goals had a different flavor. From the earliest age, I
had wanted to be a comedianlike Danny Kaye or Jerry Lewis. It was an understandable goal for someone who didn't quite fit in, but it was a decidedly mainstream dream. To get ahead, it required playing by the rules and pleasing the public, mostly on their own terms. So that's what I did. My affection for pot continued and my disregard for standard values increased, but they lagged behind my need to succeed.

Aruba-du, ruba-tu, ruba-tu. I was thinking about the curse words and the swear words, the cuss words and the words that you can't say, that you're not supposed to say all the time, [']cause words or people into words want to hear your words. Some guys like to record your words and sell them back to you if they can, (laughter) listen in on the telephone, write down what words you say. A guy who used to be in Washington knew that his phone was tapped, used to answer, Fuck Hoover, yes, go ahead. (laughter) Okay, I was thinking one night about the words you couldn't say on the public, ah, airwaves, um, the ones you definitely wouldn't say, ever, ['] cause I heard a lady say bitch one night on television, and it was cool like she was talking about, you know, ah, well, the bitch is the first one to notice that in the litter Johnie right (murmur) Right.
And, uh, bastard you can say, and hell and damn so I have to figure out which ones you couldn't and ever and it came down to seven but the list is open to amendment, and in fact, has been changed, uh, by now, ha, a lot of people pointed things out to me, and I noticed some myself. The original seven words were

George Carlin's 'Jesus' Book Banned From Wal-Mart
POSTED: 12:16 pm EST November 1, 2004 George Carlin's latest tome is being blocked from sitting on the bookshelves at Wal-Mart. The Hollywood Reporter online says the actor and famed comedian's book, " When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? " has been banned from the nation's largest retailer. According to the Reporter , Carlin's spokesman said the book was not allowed in stores because its cover makes fun of the last supper but a Wal-Mart spokeswoman countered by saying the book would not "appeal to the majority" of the store's customers. Wal-Mart's spokeswoman, Karen Burk, did point out that the book was on the retailer's Web site, said the Reporter . Burk also noted that 3,500 copies that were mistakenly sent to stores have been recalled. Carlin is the second entertainer to have a book banned from Wal-Mart this month. The mega-retailer refused Jon Stewart's textbook parody "America (The Book)" because it contained photos of aged, nude bodies with Supreme Court Justice's heads topping off each of them. By Geoff Edgers June 23, 1999 L enny Bruce died. Richard Pryor got sick. Robin Williams, Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy started making movies. At 62, George Carlin is the last comic of his era who still makes a living on a stage. When he discarded his successful suit-and-tie act in 1970, Carlin took Bruce's place as the fearless, thinking comic of the counterculture. He also became one pissed-off motherfucker, at least in public, striking a me-against-the-world pose that hasn't softened a bit not even when he's giving interviews to plug his own album. Over the years, Carlin has branched out into tame television (a failed Fox sitcom, the children's show "Shining Time Station"), some minor film roles ("Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure," "Prince of Tides") and bestselling books ("Brain Droppings"), but stand-up performances remain his main gig. And even with 40 years behind him, Carlin is as busy as ever. He recorded "You Are All Diseased" for HBO at the Beacon Theater in New York earlier this year and released a CD version last month. The set is vintage Carlin, peppered with clever slams on religion, advertising and cigar smokers, or, as he calls them, "White pussy businessmen smoking a big brown dick."
