SIR RICHARD BRANSON landed cameo roles for himself and his son in the new JAMES BOND movie after he helped to save movie dollars by providing a plane at the last minute. A lifelong Bond fan, Branson asked director MARTIN CAMPBELL if his generosity would warrant a part in CASINO ROYALE.
Producer BARBARA BROCCOLI explains, "He was very supportive of us and he helped us out when we needed a plane in Prague. "He said, 'Can I just do a little cameo' and Martin said, 'Come to the airport and we'll stick you in the little security thing and you can set the bells off.' "He had a lot of fun and he was a trooper and it was a long night. He and his son were in the scene and they were great."
Branson can be seen playing a frenzied passenger going through airport security in the new Bond film.

The Engadget Interview: Sir Richard Branson, Chairman of Virgin Group
Posted Aug 9th 2007 1:02PM by Paul Miller
Filed under: Features Transportation
Yesterday we sat down with Sir Richard Branson, Chairman of Virgin Group, in the first class cabin of Air Colbert on the inaugural flight of Virgin America . Richard's day started with a rush through NY rain to make the plane that morning, and was losing his voice on top of it, but he was nice enough to spend a some minutes with us chatting up a few of his myriad of companies. We requested to speak to him about Virgin Galactic, but he isn't allowed to comment on the current situation due to an ongoing investigation into the explosion at Scaled Composites.
Thank you for talking with us today. Congratulations on the flight!
Thank you very much.
How are you liking it?
[Laughs] Well, I'm biased. And we've spent years and years trying to get this Virgin born and off the ground, and so many people have put so much time and effort and sweat and toil into it. Our competitors have tried to smother it at birth and make sure it never happened, but now it's finally happened. It's the perfect birth, I can't think of anything I'd change. She's a beautiful baby, has got beautiful eyes, and I'm very very proud of her, very proud of what everyone's done to get this.
It's definitely been a well publicized fight to make this happen, what made it worth three and a half years to launch Virgin America?

HOME BIOLOGY FILMS GEOGRAPHY ... SPORT Probably Britain's best known Entrepreneur Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson , sometimes abbreviated as SRB for "Sir Richard Branson" (born 18 July 1950, Shamley Green, Surrey), is an English entrepreneur , best known for his Virgin brand, a banner that encompasses a variety of business organizations. The name Virgin was chosen because a female friend involved in setting down the initial record shop commented that there weren't any virgins left amongst them. It is estimated that Branson is worth over million according to the Sunday Times Rich List 2006 Sir Richard Branson In a recent interview Sir Richard was asked: "did he ever let his heart rule head." He replied: "All the time - I think that unless you do, you're not going to be a very good business person. The only really good reason for doing things in business is based on what your heart tells you, not your head." When asked how a beginner should invest £1,000, he said: "My own opinion is to put it into an Index tracking fund and forget about it - or start a business if you have a good idea." Now, that's an idea!

A "school of entrepreneurship" has been opened at a unique South African university, which provides virtually free education for poor students. The new department at the CIDA City Campus in Johannesburg is being funded by Sir Richard Branson's Virgin group. The university aims to provide business degrees to disadvantaged black students unable to afford higher education. Sir Richard said he wanted the school to help put young South Africans on the "golden highway to economic freedom". The university - CIDA City Campus - was set up from scratch five years ago by a South African businessman, Taddy Blecher, who wanted to tackle the exclusion from higher education facing poor black families.
Foster ambition
Beginning with only a borrowed building and students learning to type on paper photocopies of keyboards, the university is currently teaching business degrees to 1,300 young people.
In exchange for their tuition, students are expected to help maintain the campus and to teach young people in their own communities during the holidays. "The South African economy is dependent on entrepreneurial activity for creating future economic growth and jobs," said Sir Richard, who is giving his own name to a project for the first time.

THEN CAME BRANSON (int'l edition)
He's flamboyant. He's full of ideas. But is he flying too close to the sun? On a sultry September afternoon, a weary Richard Branson climbs aboard a Virgin Atlantic 747. Branson, founder and chairman of London-based Virgin Group, has just watched the jumbo jet unload 30 metric tons of relief equipment on hurricane-swept Antigua. He has also just come through a four-day publicity blitz that included celebrity cricket in Barbados and a catamaran cruise in St. Lucia to promote his airline's new Caribbean service. When the aftermath of Hurricane Georges forced him to cancel the Antigua leg of the V.I.P. junket, he quickly organized the relief effort, spotting a chance to engender local goodwilland publicity. But ever the showman, Branson can't resist a final flourish. In the cool, darkened cabin of the nearly empty jet, he shakes a journalist's hand on a promise: to meet again on Virgin's inaugural flight into outer space. Starship Virgin? Branson's dreams for his brand seem boundless. Since his counterculture days in the early '70s, when he lived on a houseboat in London, Europe's best-known entrepreneur has built an empire of some 200 companies with combined yearly revenues of an estimated $4 billion. His group spans three continents and includes planes, trains, financial services, music stores, cinemas, and cola. Restless and driven, Branson, who is worth an estimated $1.7 billion, according to London's Sunday Times, is a celebrity in Britain who rubs shoulders with royalty and pop stars. He's also an energetic self-promoter. It's no coincidence that Losing My Virginity, Branson's new autobiography, hits U.S. bookstores this month, just as he's expanding his airline, building new megastores, and rolling out his cola in the U.S. ''I want Virgin to be as well-known around the world as Coca-Cola,'' he says.

Branson Gets Into The Private Jet Business Posted Jun 12th 2007 3:02PM by Deidre Woollard
Filed under: Wings Richard Branson of Virgin Airways isn't just concentrating on the burgeoning space tourism market, he has now announced that he is getting into the private jet business. Branson's latest idea is Virgin Charter, a website that connects sellers of flight time on private planes with eager buyers. The idea is that many private jets have a lot of "empty legs" when they fly home after dropping passengers off. As Forbes reports it's an interesting move for Branson who just began a $3 billion campaign to fight global warming. But the idea behind the company is to reduce the empty flights thereby helping to eliminate wasted fuel. Branson and company won't be buying any jets for this endeavor, it's all about playing, as the website calls it, "jet matchmaker." Tags: flight planes private jet PrivateJet ... Comments

Virgin founder chats about embracing ethanol, slashing airplane emissions
Tina Fineberg / AP
Richard Branson, right, passes the pen to former President Clinton after signing a commitment to the Clinton Global Initiative on Sept. 16 in New York. Branson, the billionaire behind the multi-platform Virgin brand, said he would invest about $3 billion to combat global warming over the next decade.
By Amanda Griscom Little Does a music mogul who signed the Rolling Stones and Janet Jackson have what it takes to make a pop star out of biofuels? Earlier this fall, publicity-chasing British entrepreneur Richard Branson made a $3 billion bet that he could do just that and help solve the climate crisis to boot via Virgin Fuels, a new company in his wide-ranging Virgin Group. An ear for music doesn't necessarily indicate an eye for energy technology, of course. Branson has proved himself remarkably versatile over the last few decades, expanding his Virgin brand beyond the record label into successful airline, locomotive, cable, and mobile-phone companies. But there have been flops along the way Virgin Jeans and Virgin Cola, to name just a couple. Virgin Fuels could be an even riskier venture given that it's plunging headlong into unproven markets, but Branson insists that biofuels are a critical near-term solution to climate change and could fully supplant conventional fuels within 30 years.

This album went on to sell over 5 million copies! The equity of Virgin Music Group - record labels, music publishing, and recording studios was sold to THORN EMI in 1992 in a US$1billion deal.
The Virgin Group has now expanded into international music Megastores, air travel, mobile, financial, retail, music, internet, drinks, rail, hotels and leisure, with around 200 companies in over 30 countries. Yes, we've been busy!

"My mother was determined to make us independent," Richard Branson writes in his book Losing My Virginity (Times Books 1998). "When I was four, she stopped the car a few miles from our house and made me find my own way home across the fields." In his youth, Richard Branson was not an impressive student. He was dyslexic and near-sighted, but he could always make things happen. When he was seventeen, attending school at Stowe, Richard and a classmate started a school newspaper, the Student , which ran articles about prominent politicians, famous rock stars, and different celebrities of the day. Richard's mother, Eve, helped keep the fledgling newspaper afloat by giving Richard pocket money and writing stories. The paper debuted in January of 1968. Shortly thereafter, Richard convinced his parents to let him leave school in order to pursue the newspaper fulltime. While running the Student from a basement in London, Richard noticed that stores were not discounting records. Richard began to run ads in the
