Bach is an American novelist, screenwriter, and essayist. He is best known for Jonathan Livingston Seagull , a novel that Bach claims was inspired by a vision. The novel was a tremendous financial success, although most critics found it banal in theme and simplistic in its ersatz philosophical pretensions. The Influence of Richard Bach
    My Blue Feather
Fans of Richard Bach will know where I am going with this but for those who have not yet experienced his book Illusions I will give a brief summary. In the book Richard meets Donald Shimoda a modern day messiah that teaches that miracles are nothing more then understanding the universe. He tells Richard that he can have anything he wants simply by imagining it. He tells Richard how to visualize the object. Richard first wants his dream woman but Donald tells him to start small so Richard chooses a blue feather. A few days later Richard finds his blue feather on a milk carton. While reading this book I to decided that I wanted a blue feather and imagined it as Richard was told to do. About a week later a friend of mine brought me a paddle from his old canoe for my new boat because he knew that I had already been stuck on the lake when the motor failed just two days after buying it. He had gotten rid of his canoe and said I was welcome to have it. When he handed it to me my jaw almost hit the floor. On it was a blue feather. I have seen many such paddles since in stores but all their feathers were black. As of yet my paddle is the only one I have ever seen with a blue feather. Well the boat is gone but I still have the paddle and you can bet I'll keep it as long as I walk this planet. For those of you who haven't yet read Illusions reading it will be well worth the effort. When you finish it keep a look out for your blue feather.

Remember where you came from, where you're going, and why you created the mess you got yourself into in the first place.
You are led through your lifetime by the inner learning creature, the playful spiritual being that is your real self. Don't turn away from possible futures before you're certain you don't have anything to learn from them.
You're always free to change your mind and choose a different future, or a different past.
Learning is finding out what you already know. Doing is demonstrating that you know it. Teaching is reminding others that they know just as well as you. You are all learners, doers, and teachers.
Your only obligation in any lifetime is to be true to yourself. Being true to anyone else or anything else is not only impossible, but the mark of a false messiah.
Your conscience is the measure of the honesty of your selfishness. Listen to it carefully.

Richard what is so damned hard about that? But they didn't even hear, most of them. Miracles - like going to auto races to see the crashes, they came to me to see miracles. First it's frustrating and then after a while it just gets dull. I have no idea how the other messiahs could stand it."

    Biography
A direct descendant of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach, Richard Bach was born in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1936. He attended Long Beach State College in 1955 and had a successful career in aviation, as an Air Force pilot, a flight instructor, an aviation mechanic, and an editor for Flying magazine. Jonathan Livingston Seagull, the novel that made him famous, was written as the result of a vision. Halfway through the book, the vision disappeared and, finding that he was unable to continue, Bach, put the novel aside. When the vision reappeared, Bach finished the work. Jonathan Livingston Seagull, published in 1972, was an unexpected success and became the best-selling book in the United States for that year. The book is heavily influenced by Bach's love of flying and provides a marvelous inspirational message. The Bridge Across Forever: A Love Story, and One are some of his other novels that blend inspiration, love, fantasy, and hope. 030

He has authored numerous works of fiction and nonfiction, including Jonathan Livingston Seagull Illusions One (1989), and Out of My Mind (1999). Most of his books have been semi-autobiographical, using actual or fictionalized events from his life to illustrate his philosophy. Bach was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Roland Robert and Ruth Helen (Shaw) Bach; he is a distant descendant of composer Johann Sebastian Bach. He attended Long Beach State College (now California State University, Long Beach) in 1955. Bach was once an Air Force reserve pilot, and he later became a barnstormer. Nearly all of his books involve flight in some way, from the early stories which are straightforwardly about flying aircraft to his later works in which flight is a complex philosophical metaphor. Bach had a huge success with

Review: The Bridge Across Forever by Richard Bach
Posted by Tel under Reviews/Abstracts The Bridge Across Forever is a beautiful love story, which is all the more special because it is an autobiography. Bestselling author Richard Bach, famous for Jonathan Livingston Seagull , offers us his extensive and winding journey of learning to love, and also as he shares himself completely with his soul mate in this book based on his real-life relationship with actor Leslie Parrish. The Bridge across Forever is a moving and inspiring account of his own self-discovery. Richard Bach had passively waited for years for the woman of his dreams, the one perfect woman to simply walk into his life. Note: Jonathan Livingston Seagull in 1973. They married in 1981 and this book, The Bridge Across Forever , is based on their courtship. They divorced and he has since remarried.

E v e r y person, a l l the events of your life are there because you have drawn them there. What you c h o o s e to do with them is up to y o u ~ Richard Bach Writer Richard Bach (1936-) was born on this day in Oak Park, Illinois. His inspirational novel Jonathan Livingston Seagull enchantingly described adventures in flight, the spirit, freedom joy ... And Jonathan's most important lesson: the meaning of kindness and love "Don't believe what your eyes are telling you, all they show is limitation," Bach explained. "Believe with your understanding, find out what you already know, and you'll see the way to fly." A former US Air Force fighter pilot, Bach had a tough time selling his parable about a bird dedicated to flying "for the joy of flying." His manuscript was universally rejected until an editor at Macmillan took a chance and did a first printing of 7,500 in 1970. The book became a phenomenal bestseller and spent 38 weeks as #1 on the New York Times list. It has since sold over 30 million copies in over 30 languages. "You have the freedom to be yourself, your true self, here and now, and nothing can stand in your way," Jonathan Seagull believed. A

      Blog: Illusions by Richard Bach

This is from one of my favorite books Illusions by Richard Bach.
      Excerpt #1 - The Savior
Once there lived a village of creatures along the bottom of a great crystal river.
The current of the river swept silently over them all - young and old, rich and poor, good and evil, the current going its own way, knowing only its own crystal self.
Each creature in its own manner clung tightly to the twigs and rocks at the river bottom, for clinging was their way of life, and resisting the current what each had learned from birth.
But the one heeded them not, and taking a breath did let go, and at once was tumbled and smashed by the current across the rocks. Yet in time, as the creature refused to cling again, the current lifted him free from the bottom, and he was bruised and hurt no more.
