The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Christina Applegate will play a hot mom in the new comedy The Rocker , starring opposite Rainn Wilson . Fox Atomic will shovel this one out, with Peter Cattaneo The Full Monty ) directing while Shawn Levy and Tom McNulty produce through their 21 Laps Entertainment. Wilson, who is better known as Dwight from NBC's The Office , will play a failed, over-the-hill drummer in the film who decides he wants another chance at super stardom when the band he was booted from 20 years earlier hits it big. The premise of ABC's new Christina Applegate sitcom, "Samantha Who?," is medically suspect but comically sound: Sam, a woman who awakens from an eight-day coma, finds she has no memory of her previous life. And the more she learns about that life, the less she likes it. Premiering tonight at 9:30, "Samantha Who" helps itself with shrewd casting for supporting actors. Jean Smart plays Sam's self-absorbed, abrasive mother, and earns solid laughs right away. Jennifer Esposito (from "Related"), as Sam's party-girl best friend Andrea, brightens every scene so much she ends up stealing most of them. One brief exchange, in which Smart's Regina notes Andrea's ease with a cocktail, sums up the sparkling promise of both these characters and the show.
