Twelfth Generation
David Akin was born about 1640 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He died about 1670 in Portsmouth, R.I.. A deed was found by Daphne Brownell dated 1662 that documents David Akin as a land owner. Therefore, we conclude that David was in America prior to 1662.
One source (Lois Akin Schultz) suggests that David Akin may have been killed in the King Phillip's War which was a war between the colonists and the Indians fought in 1675 - 1676. Another source found on the Internet at CNIDR Isearch-cgi 1.20.06 (File: logm9611c.txt) states that David Akin died in Portsmouth, RI in 1709. Both of these assertions are doubtful since a deed dated 1671 for 200 acres of land in Portsmouth, RI was found being purchased by Mary Akin, David's wife, in which she signed as Mary Akin, widow. Thus, one must conclude that David died before 1671 which means he could not have died in the King Phillips War.
I have queried the Department of Records in Rhode Island who checked the book Soldiers in King Philip's War, by George Madison Bodge (Genealogical Publishing Co., 1967) which found no one named Akin, Aiken or anything close.
Mary Unknown was born about 1640 in Aberdeen, Scotland (?).

Akin Estates is a new win e venture located in Lodi, California, and a resu lt of a fulfilled vision and dream of one of the principals, Winemaker David Akin. David Akin first came to Lodi as a Manager and Winemaker for the then-named Barengo Vineyards in 1978. His experience using Lodi grapes blended into wines produce d at several Coastal wineries led him to believe that fine varietal wines, rivaling those produced anywhere in the state, could be made from Lodi grown grapes at Lodi area wineries. Twenty-five years later, over thirty Lodi area bonded wineries, and several other wineries outside the Lodi appellation, are proving his vision was correct. After years of consulting and making wine for others, David, with the full support of his wife Brenda, returned to Lodi in 2002 to pursue his dream of producing premium wine from area vineyards that were exciting enough to put the family name on the label. Our philosophy of winemaking at Akin Estates is simple. We work with the best grape growing families in the Lodi area and hand select the grapes picked in small lots at perfect ripeness and quality. The grapes are made into wine using modern yet traditional methods that enhance and promote the character of each variety.

On the Fate of the Trusteeship of Wade Burleson
I am not in support of Hiram Smith's motion to remove Wade Burleson as an IMB Trustee. I will vote against it if it comes to the floor. Reason One: Burleson and His Cause Thrive Off Of Such Actions . A thousand posts on his blog could not do for him what one stunt like this does to help him. My father-in-law likes to quote a movie about Gov. Huey Long in which the Governor purportedly says, "It's our enemies that make us and our friends that break us." Never has this statement been any more true. Burleson's affiliations with the Jimmy Carters and CBEs Reason Two: Smith's Motion Gives All the Wrong Reasons to Remove Burleson . If I were inclined to see Burleson's tenure end prematurely, it would never be because he has differed with trustee actions or published his views on the Internet. Burleson has suggested that the Conservative Resurgence would not have taken place if people like him had been able to employ the Internet thirty years ago (a statement that shows clearly where he stands conservatism, by the way). I believe that the Internet would only have

    Dealing with Emotions
This is a videotape that shows different ways people can react in situations that produce an emotional response. A number of vignettes show people expressing their feelings in common situations. Some of the expressions of feelings are socially appropriate while other expressions and reactions are socially inappropriate. The video tape has been prepared for teachers and therapists to help teenagers express their feelings in ways that are effective and appropriate when communicating with others. I have found this tape particularly useful, as part of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy as it shows a range of appropriate and inappropriate responses particularly for the emotions of anxiety and anger.

    Abstract
    Biography
Roger Martin Keesing, anthropologist and linguist, was born on a Pacific island, Hawaii, May 16, 1935, the second child of two anthropologists. His parents, also Pacific islanders, immigrated to the United States from New Zealand in 1928. His father, Felix Maxwell Keesing, held several teaching positions, the last as the Foundation Chair of the anthropology department at Stanford University. His mother, Marie M. Martin, conducted field research in the Pacific islands. Keesing received a B.A. degree in social anthropology from Stanford in 1956. He then spent two years with the U. S. Air Force, taking advantage of a posting to Turkey to conduct fieldwork. Deciding to continue his study of anthropology, he began graduate work at Harvard University, obtaining an M.A. in 1963 and a doctoral degree in 1965. His dissertation, KWAIO MARRIAGE AND SOCIETY, was based on ethnographic fieldwork with the Kwaio, the native people of Malaita in the Solomon Islands. He remained both professionally and personally engaged with the Kwaio throughout his career.

        Abstract:
In this paper, I reflect on the evolution of Native Pacific Cultural Studies with a partial professional history of Pacific conferences over the last ten years. I ask what constitutes the edge for each of the components of Native, Pacific, Cultural Studies and whether such an aggregate is viable. There are unresolved tensions and conflicts between each of the componentsNative and Pacific studies, Native and Cultural studies, Pacific and Cultural studieswhich are highlighted in the paper. I situate my own work in this history and in these tensions, and discuss the changes in direction in my intellectual and theoretical approach to the Pacific.
