Delaware County, NY Genealogy and History Site transcribed by Les and Dorothy Howland, California please wait while 243K loads The following records are courtesy of the Roxbury Library Associations History Room . Hard Copies of such records are available for viewing and duplication during normal library hours. This compilation is from the notebooks of Amy Gavette and was done in the 1960s . It was manually typed on typing paper. Needless to say some of it is faded and coping it is difficult. If dates don't match you may have to go to the Roxbury Library and see the originals, they too are starting to fade. This is not a public library, they run on support from their patrons and the History room is run by donations, and for such a small room it is packed full of information on the town of Roxbury and some Delaware county information. 85. Ward Family
Sarah Bertha Ward (18641947) m. George Taylor (1860-1946) Henry Smith.. Children of Charles S. Ward and Mamie Detrick Jean O. Ward (abt.
http://www.fmoran.com/ward.html
Ward Family
According to the Ward family history, the Wards of Connecticut and New Jersey are descended from Robert Ward of Houghton Pavoa, Northampton, England. Robert Ward married Isabel Stapley of Dunchurch, County Warwick, England and named their son, James. James married Anna or Alice Fawkes of Dunchurch. Their children: Stephen, Isabel, George and Lawrence Their son, Stephen Ward, who was born about 1585, married Joyce Trafford of Lucestershire, England about 1607. After Stephen's death, his widow Joyce Ward moved to New England with her sons Anthony, John, William, and Robert in 1630. They settled in Wethersfield, Connecticut in 1635, where Joyce Ward died in 1640. Joyce Ward's Will and Inventory Record English Origins of American Colonists , by J. Henry Lea and J. R. Hutchinson, pg. 105 - The JOYCE WARD, widow, of Wethersfield, Conn., was most probably NOT identical with JOYCE the wife of Stephen Ward of Northampton town in England, the mother of the testator according to the Visitation pedigree already cited, as the children named by her in her will do not at all agree with those of Joyce (Trafford) Ward of Northampton who was almost certainly the mother of the Emigrant and his brother Ambrose, mentioned in the above will of Richard of Paxton. Yet it is noteworthy that it is stated by Judge Adams in his manuscript that "The late ex. Governor Marcus L. Ward of New Jersey said that he was a descendant of the widow Joyce Ward of Wethersfield and that her husband's name was Stephen and that he died in England. It seems incredible that there could have been two Stephens each with a wife Joyce at the same period and this part of the pedigree will demand the strictest scrutiny.

Forest City Road, Forest City, York Co, NB

At one time, both Forest City, NB and Forest City, Maine, had their own separate burial sites. Likely because the "two" communities were in reality one community staddling the international boundry it only made sense to combine the two cemeteries. When this actually occurred is unknown, but likely in the late 1800's or early 1900's.
At the entrance to the present day cemetery is a monument consisting of three granite grinding wheels salvaged from the old Grist Mill set on a concrete base with a plaque reading "In memory of Dr. Lyman A Lydic, 1978". Flags of both countries fly overhead.
Over the years attempts have been made to document and record the burials without achieving any definitive list. Wallace (Wally) Hale came about as close as anyone with his publication of York County cemeteries in 1982. This page draws heavily on that work as well as including updated information done by myself on May 20, 2001. Although the exact number may never be known, there are many burials done beyond living memory for which there is no record or grave marker. For example, David PATTERSON is believed buried here but with the lapse of nearly 100 years, no one is left alive to remember. Some burials are recorded in various diaries kept by members of the community; a few ministers kept journals of funerals they conducted. But, generally, there is nothing in the way of a methodical recording of who, when or where. So, just because the name you are looking for isn't on the list, doesn't mean they aren't buried in Forest City.
