Matz, thanking him for a copy of the report on the preliminary meeting of the Dickens Fellowship, and for: "proposing to do me the honour of adding my name to the list of Vice Presidents of the Association. I regret to be obliged to decline the honour as for many reasons . . . . But I can assure you that I am in sincere sympathy with a movement designed in honour of the name of Dickens, and that I highly esteem the compliment which you proposed to pay me." Mounted to a larger sheet; in good condition. Sir Adolphus William Ward (1837-1924); English historian. The recipient of the above letter, B.W. Matz, became an editor of "The Dickensian", the official organ of the Dickens Fellowship, founded 1905.
