Contesting Ancient African History: Assumptions and Claims of Eurocentric Historians There are certain premises and positions that have become untenable by virtue of the Afrocentric intervention into social sciences and humanities. Afrocentrists have opened doors to historical research that have been long held shut by Eurocentric orientations to phenomena. For instance, in ancient historiography few scholars are now willing to take ancient Egypt out of Africa as Hegel, Breasted, and Maspero tried to do in the l9th and early part of the 20th century. No serious researcher would claim, as Toynbee did, that Africa produced no civilizations. Almost no one would argue the positions advanced by Fage concerning African people. While a few whites can still be found who preach the inferiority of Africans, almost no scholar would be foolhardy enough to suggest that whites are biologically superior to blacks. In fact, I have witnessed a remarkable change in attitude on the part of many white scholars who are now following the tradition of Afrocentrists in their examination of phenomena by taking into greater consideration oral traditions, centered analysis, human similarities, and locational analysis, spheres previously examined mainly by Afrocentrists. My aim is to demonstrate the explanatory power of the Afrocentric paradigm. I do not aim to present a litany of interpretative achievements. I have defined Afrocentricity as a perspective on phenomena that views African people as subjects rather than objects.

November/December 1967 Volume 18, Number 6 November/December 1967
Volume 18, Number 6 The Million Dollar Bet Written and illustrations courtesy of John Brinton It was a grand night for Dublin, they said later, a grand night. There were fires burning in the hills, the people were cheering in the streets and the tavern keepers were handing out the whiskey as if it were water from a well. But then that was the night Buck Whaley came back from the Holy Land to win a wager worth one million dollars. One night in Dublin Buck Whaley attended a party at the palatial residence of the Duke of Leister and regaled the guests with lurid tales of bizarre adventures in Europe during a recent trip. Then, asked where he was going next, he said, "Jerusalem," and with an impish smile, sat back to wait for the shocked reaction. It was not long in coming. As he well knew, the Irish of that period were not entirely certain that such a place as Jerusalem still existed, but in any case were bound to think that the fierce Turks who then controlled that part of the world would hardly be inclined to let Buck Whaley come to call. Sure enough someone challenged him. There is no such place as Jerusalem, he was told. There is, he insisted, adding that if the stakes were high enough he would be willing to go there to prove it. Within minutes, unbelievable as it may seem today, Buck was shaking hands on one of the most fantastic wagers of all time: the equivalent in today's terms of one million dollars that not only did Jerusalem exist, but that he, Buck Whaley, could go there and return, within two years, with "incontestable proof."

The Three Adversaries of Solomon
...
Solomon as Senenmut
It appears that toward the end, Senmut/Solomon had a change of heart and returned to Israel leaving Egypt and his queen behind.
And so the reign of Solomon neared its end. Jeroboam had found safety in Egypt.
"Solomon sought to kill Jeroboam. And Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, unto Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon." 1.Kings 11:40.
The reason King Solomon sought to kill Jeroboam was that his falling away from the divine blueprint had caused him (Solomon) to do injustices which angered the people who had found a ready spokesman in Jeroboam. In revised view Solomon died in 930 and Queen-Pharaoh Hatshepsut in 926 BC. Until then and because Hatshepsut and Solomon were fast friends, the later Thutmose III was powerless to take action. But he had already begun to raise himself a pupet king in Israel and indoctrinate Jeroboam with his attitudes and plans. If Solomon was Senenmut, we find perhaps a clue here that the influence Solomon/Senmut still had in Egypt with Hatshepsut dictated Thutmose's wait and see attitude.
The Three Adversaries of Solomon
For some time Solomon's policies had created him three adversaries.

Zeus FAQ
Why is Zeus significant in a Bible cosmology FAQ?
A. The religion of the Greeks prevailed throughout the world in the inter-testament period. In the 2nd century BC, Greek culture was imposed on the Jews, with some lasting effects. The cosmology of the Hebrew scriptures was revised in the hellenistic age. The idea of a rigid heaven in the first chapter of Genesis is a relic of the hellenistic period. To understand the nature of the cosmology that has been inserted in the Bible, we need to understand something about the Greek religion and Zeus, its principal deity.
What is the meaning of the name 'Zeus'?
A. Zeus, his ancestral name was 'Dyeus' from whence 'tuesday'. A.B. Cook's conclusion was that Zeus was the bright blue sky, as his name indicates.
"Zeus, whose name means 'the Bright One,' was originally conceived in zoistic fashion as the bright sky itself - a conception that has left its mark on the language and literature of ancient Greece.
Again, when Hellenistic artists portray Zeus with a blue nimbus round his head, a blue globe at his feet, a blue mantle wrapped about his loins, what are these attributes, taken together, but an indication that the god so portrayed was once the blue sky and the blue sky only?"

    Explanatory Notes
The primary purpose of these Explanatory Notes is threefold: to explain or identify words and references which might be unfamiliar to modem readers of Malcolm's Katie to indicate parallels between Malcolm's Katie and other passages and poems by Crawford; and to call attention to words and phrases that allude to or, as the case may be, derive from the works of other writers. In this last category, the notes are intended to complement the Introduction, where emphasis is placed, not on local verbal and phrasal echoes, but on the large patterns and general qualities that link Malcolm's Katie with works by Shakespeare, Tennyson, Longfellow and others. Parallels within Crawford's canon are indicated by means of poem titles and page references to Old Spookses Pass Malcolm s Katie and Other Poems (1884) or, where necessary (and under the designation of Collected Poems to J.W. Classification, management and restoration of natural plant communities are difficult objectives for Midwestern conservation agencies, especially when the structure and composition of former vegetation are unclear and management decisions are affected by nomenclature. For example, prairie, savanna, and timber are thought to have comprised the presettlement vegetation mosaic in the forest-prairie transition of Illinois, with savanna occurring in areas of intermediate fire protection (Kilburn 1959; Moran 1976, 1980; Anderson 1991; Bowles
