    I was from USA, and I lived from 1828-1867. Print or Buy my poetry? View comments Add to favorites? Henry Timrod was born on 8th December 1829 in Charleston, South Carolina. His father, William Henry Timrod, was a staunch patriot and also contributed to a literay magazine. It is no surprise, therefore, that Henry also grew up to have these charactersitics.
    Despite his father's early death, Timrod was still able to attend Charleston's finest school and later attended the University of Georgia. On graduating, he returned to Chaleston and at first practised law, before later becoming a private teacher. This suited him well as it also gave him time to pursue his literary ambitions.
    During the Civil War, Timrod not only enlisted in a volunteer regiment, but also made the conflict the focus of his poetic works. His patriot lyrics are said to have inspired many a soldier and civilian and helped him acquire a reputation as “the laureate of the Confederacy”. One of his finest pieces to come out of this time was

His father was an officer in the Seminole Wars and a poet himself. Henry studied at the University of Georgia , but, forced by illness to end his formal studies, returned to Charleston. He took a position with an attorney and planned to began a practice of law From to he submitted a number of poems to The Southern Literary Messenger , under the pen name Aglaus , where he attracted some attention for his abilities. Encouraged, he left the field of law for writing and tutoring In he accepted a post as a teacher at the plantation of Col. William Henry Cannon, in the area that would later become Florence, South Carolina . The single room school building (still preserved in Timrod Park in Florence) was built to provide for the education of the plantation children. Among his students was the young lady who would later become his bride, and the object of a number of his poems - the fair Saxon Katie Godwin.

Peace is generally defined as a state of quiet or tranquillity , as an absence of disturbance or agitation (Latin derivation Pax Absentia Belli Peacemakers are people who have overcome entrenched violence and conflict through their leadership and vision to achieve peace. More specifically, it can refer to an absence of violence or war . In this sense, peace between and within national states is a goal of many persons and organisations, notably the United Nations . Peace can be voluntary, where potential agitators choose to abstain from disturbance, or it can be enforced, by suppressing those who might otherwise cause such disturbance.
