TALBOT TIMES
Newsletter of the ELGIN COUNTY BRANCH ONTARIO GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
VOL. I ISSUE 4 DECEMBER 1982
EDITOR’S MESSAGE
When mail started arriving from British Columbia, Michigan, California, Wisconsin, etc., I thought, “Oh my goodness, what on earth was I thinking about to agree to do a Newsletter,’’ but it has been fun. Everyone has been most kind and accepted my efforts, and I have had good support from Joyce.
Central Elgin Collegiate Resource Centre, Chestnut St., St. Thomas have agreed to house our library. It will be open to the public during school hours. True, we haven’t many books or documents as yet, but time and the sale of cemetery recordings will help this along. Any donation of material (family histories, old ledgers, old scrapbooks anything containing names of local interest) will be gratefully accepted. We are also asking our members to complete their Pedigree Charts of their family with any Elgin County connection. We expect to index our branch members ‘families”, so that these can be stored in our library for other genealogists to use.
1982 has been a good year, if enthusiasm spells success, our Elgin Branch has it made.

Lucinda Anne Ray was born in Kentucky in 1817 and died at or near Coffeyville,Ks. in 1917 at her daughters residence, a Mollie Fossenden(sp). She had been married to Limon Harbison and he was killed near Stillwell Kansas in 1864. I have been unsuccessful in finding any Fossendens in Kansas, much less Johnson County. I had contacted Kansas Vital Records but they had no record of her death. Probably due to either the spelling of the last name or she may have remarried. Any information on Lucinda and her children would be appreciated.

Committee to Review Australian Studies in Tertiary Education
Supported Pages Current Supporters Former Supporters Foundation Supporters Financial support for work on the Guide to the Archives of Science in Australia came from three sources. The project was initially funded by a grant from the Committee to Review Australian Studies in Tertiary Education (CRASTE) in late 1987. CRASTE was established by the Commonwealth Department of Employment, Education and Training in connection with the Australian Bicentenary celebrations of 1988. Though it was realised from the outset that this grant would not be sufficient to see the task completed, it did allow the collection of a significant amount of data and the establishment of a database system to handle the information. A grant from the Helen M. Schutt Trust in late 1988 allowed for the further collation of data and its entry into the database. Then in late 1989 the National Centre for Research and Development in Australian Studies (now the National Centre for Australian Studies) at Monash University provided sufficient funds to see the remaining data processed and the output prepared for publication. The National Library of Australia also provided funds to allow work to continue on the database, specifically the collation and assemblage of data in a format suitable for use on the OZLINE network.
