    Inhalt
    I. Begriff
    Der Begriff Mittelalter ging aus der nachfolgenden Epoche, der Renaissance, hervor. Die Humanisten wählten den Begriff für die Zeit zwischen Antike und der Neuzeit.
    II. Weltbild
    Das mittelalterliche Weltbild ist tief von Kirche und Bibel geprägt. Gott ist der Erschaffer der Welt, der Natur und des Menschen und lenkt diese. Die Vertreibung aus dem Paradies wird als Beginn der Geschichte angesehen, die europäischen Königs- und Kaiserreiche - unter Einfluß der Kirche - als Vorläufer des Gottesreichs auf der Erde, nach dem Jüngsten Gericht. Der einzelne Mensch ist Bestandteil dieser Ordnung, er fühlt sich als Teil der Gesellschaft, nicht als Individuum.
    III. Historischer Hintergrund
    Die einsetzende Völkerwanderung und der Zerfall des Römischen Reiches markiert den Beginn des Mittelalters und damit gleichzeitig das Ende der Antike. Die Herrschaftsgewalt zersplitterte sich zunächst in grundherrschaftliche, später in lehensrechtliche Beziehungen bis hin zur Entstehung des Königreiches. Die Macht wurde dabei nicht nur von den Adligen, meistens Lehensherren, ausgeübt, sondern auch von der Kirche, die eine eigene Machtposition vertrat. Durch Salbung des Königs war dieser auch kirchlich legitimiert. Im Frühmittelalter war die Kirche der Kulturträger der Gesellschaft, denn meist nur der Klerus wußte über das Lesen und Schreiben bescheid. Die Gesellschaft war geteilt in die Stände Adel, Klerus und Bauern. Sie richtete sich auf agrarwirtschaftliche und naturalwirtschaftliche Produktion aus.

    Alferne var overnaturlige, menneskelignende væsener som stod for frugtbarhed og vækst.
    Det kaldtes alfebloten , når man ofrede til alferne sent på efteråret for at opnå frugtbarhed . Man mener denne offerfest svarer til vore dages jul
    Der findes både lysalfer og sortalfer . Af lysalferne er de smukkeste Diserne , der er underlagt Freja . De ligner, og er på størrele med mennesker.
    Lysalferne, der er tilknyttet lys og luft, bor i Alfhjem der ligger i den tredie himmel Hvidblåin , og sortalferne, der er tilknyttet det underjordiske bor i Sortalfehjem . Sortalferne er skikkelige små væsener der arbejder som smede og håndværkere og sikkert de samme som kaldes dværgene . I den nordiske edda regnes alferne med til de guddommelige væsener sammen med aserne og vanerne , men de er ikke, som aserne, udødelige. De siges at stamme fra dværgfyrsten Ivalde , som måske er far til Ydun og Vølund

    Heimskringla in the news Heimskringla is the Icelandic name of a collection of sagas recorded in Iceland around by the poet and historian Snorri Sturluson (1179-1242). The collection contains tales about the Norwegian kings , beginning with the legendary Swedish dynasty of the House of Yngling s, followed by accounts of more historical Norwegian rulers of the to centuries, up to the death of Eystein Eysteinson in The Heimskringla traces Odin and his followers from the East, from Asaland and Asgard , its chief city, to their settlement in Scandinavia . It narrates the contests of the kings, the establishment of the kingdoms of Norway Sweden , and Denmark , the Viking expeditions, the discovery and settlement of Iceland and Greenland , the discovery of America , and the conquests of England and Normandy . The stories are told with a life and freshness, giving a picture of human life in all its reality. Some of the Sagas of the "Heimskringla" are romances, full of adventures, while at the same time they lie completely within the range of history and may be regarded as authentic. The Saga of Olaf Haraldson is the main part. His 15 year long reign takes up about one third of the entire work. That of Harold Hardrada narrates his expedition to the East, his brilliant exploits in Constantinople Syria , and Sicily , his scaldic accomplishments, and his battles in England against Harold , the son of Earl Godwin , where he fell at Stamford Bridge in only a few days before Harold himself fell at the
