    Section 6 - Cataloging Monographs
Overview Many of the titles you catalog will already be in the database, and it will simply be a matter of inventorying your items or copying a record from the LCMARC database.  This manual is primarily for the titles that you will create and input into the database yourself. This manual contains the directions for monographs.  A monograph is a non-serial printed item.  If a book is complete in one piece or in a finite number of pieces it is a monograph.  Most of the books on your library’s shelves are monographs.  Each piece in a series of books can be a monograph, such as The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in the seven book series by C.S. Lewis called The Chronicles of Narnia If an item is intended to be continued indefinitely it is a serial.  Newsweek Fodors Travel Guide , and Books in Print are serials.  If the title contains a year, the item is probably a serial. Matching titles Kidnapped Record input To call up a book workform enter the number and press enter.  Other options are for audiobooks, cassettes, CD’s, periodicals, videos, serials, and computer software.  You will also see NEWSDEX, which is for a special Lincoln Library collection and is used by them only. To use the book format, follow the guidelines given on the following pages.  Some information you will be required to input into the record and some areas will be optional.
