Rex Stout Nero wolfe on yhdysvaltalaisen Rex Stoutin (1886 - 1975) luoma suuri hahmo. Stout kirjoitti kaikkiaan 74 Nero Wolfe -tarinaa (kahdesta tarinasta on julkaistu toisistaan poikkeavat versiot). Stout kirjoitti ensimmäisen Wolfe-tarinan Keihäskäärme vuonna 1934 47-vuotiaana. Viimeinen Nero wolfe-kirja julkaistiin vuonna 1975 kuukautta ennen 88-vuotiaan kirjailijan kuolemaa. Stout oli ennen Nero Wolfe-kirjoja julkaissut 8 kirjaa ja toiminut mm. lehtimiehenä. Nero Wolfe on pitkälti toistasataakiloinen yksityisetsivä. Hän asuu New Yorkissa omistamassaan talossa 35. läntisellä kadulla.
