Beg List
June 16 Can anyone tell me something about the following titles? Some are from the Nautical Fiction List, but lack descriptions or have inadequate ones, others are waiting for a description so they can go into the list, they may not even be nautical or fiction. I try hard not to put anything into the list without a description of some sort, though of course I'm quite imperfect in that regard. Send replies to: jkohnen@boat-links.com Thanks!

His father, a Biblical scholar, William Smith Stockton, was of English descent and his mother, Emily Hepzibeth Drean Stockton, had ancestors who were English, French and Irish. His wife, Marian, claimed that Stockton's writing was affected by his genes. She theorized "that three nationalities were combined in his stories: the peculiar kind of inventiveness of the French; the point of view and the humor that we find in the old English humorists; and the capacity of the Irish for comical situations."

"...Richard Seltzer has compiled a fantastic selection of short stories. This collection features a cross section of short stories from around the world...The short stories in this colleciton offer readers a unique opportunity to compare the various techniques used in crafting a masterful short story, and to experience how this literary form differs from country to country... The works contained in this collection are all works currently in the public domain... By default, this is a collection of classic short stories. These are the stories that you will most often be required to read in high school and college, because they are stories that have withstood the test of time and have emerged as stellar examples of the literary form...This is a collection that will delight readers of every ilk, with short stories that run the gamut form westerns to stories about love and faith."
