"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."
Our duty is to be useful, not according to our desires but according to our powers.

Home Contact Guest Book James Stephens Tribute James Stephens (1882-1950). On National Poetry day I commemorate d the work of Irish poet James Stephens by reading one of his poems over his newly discovered grave. The grave is in Kingsbury, London, in the graveyard of St Andrew’s Anglican Church NW9. I first got news of this through an article by Peter Beresford Ellis in The Irish Post and I was shocked that such a famous and popular Irish figure could so quickly be forgotten to the extent that his grave is overgrown and the tombstone broken and there is graffiti. I have begun the process of communicating with those with some degree of responsibilty and they in their turn have undertaken to renovate the grave and erect a memorial stone. The grave was discovered by a local resident who happens to be (like me) a Stephens fan. When I compiled THE POOLBEG BOOK OF IRISH POETRY FOR CHILDREN back in 1997 the work of James Stephens which is included there shone through.

"A man's delight in looking forward to and hoping for some particular satisfaction is a part of the pleasure flowing out of it, enjoyed in advance. But this is afterward deducted, for the more we look forward to anything the less we enjoy it when it comes."
Arthur Schopenhauer "Beauty is about perception, not about make-up. I think the beginning of all beauty is knowing and liking oneself. You can't put on make-up, or dress yourself, or do your hair with any sort of fun or joy if you're doing it from a position of correction."
Kevyn Aucoin "Often while reading a book one feels that the author would have preferred to paint rather than write; one can sense the pleasure he derives from describing a landscape or a person, as if he were painting what he is saying, because deep in his heart he would have preferred to use brushes and colours."
Pablo Picasso "A book should serve as the axe for the frozen sea within us."

There are strange things done in the midnight sun By the men who moil for gold; The Arctic trails have their secret tales That would make your blood run cold; The Northern Lights have seen queer sights, But the queerest they ever did see Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge I cremated Sam McGee. -from The Cremation of Sam McGee by Robert W. Service
As you may know, deer camp is a place where the stories are left uncensored. Having warned you of this, you can choose whether or not you would like to read the following story called "The Night of The King's Castration." It is a witty, vulgar, raw, great poem. I usually only hear different bits and pieces of the story each time my dad tells it, but here is the complete story: Understanding the warnings above, click below to read:

Hidden faults and follies known,
Be thou, in rebuking evil,
Conscious of thine own. Philip J.BAILEY (1816-1902) from 'Festus' All animals are living hieroglyphs,
The dashing dog, and stealthy stepping cat,
Hawk, bull, and all that breathe mean something more
To the true eye than their shapes show; for all
Were made in love, and made to be beloved, Thus must he think as to earth's lower life, Who seeks to win the world to thought and love. Christina ROSSETTI (1830-1894) from 'A Nursery Rhyme Book' Hurt no living thing: Ladybird, nor butterfly, Nor moth with dusty wing, Nor cricket chirping cheerily, Nor grasshopper so light of leap, Nor dancing gnat, nor beetle fat, Nor harmless worms that creep. from 'To What Purpose this Waste?' And other eyes than ours Were made to look on flowers, Eyes of small birds and insects small: The deep sun-blushing rose Round which the prickles close Opens her bosom to them all.
