Creative Perfumes It is the nobility of their style which will make our writers of 1840 unreadable forty years from now.
"I call "crystallization" that action of the mind that discovers fresh perfections in its beloved at every turn of events." Only great minds can afford a simple style. The man of genius is he and he alone who finds such joy in his art that he will work at it come hell or high water. The shepherd always tries to persuade the sheep that their interests and his own are the same.

There influential relatives obtained a place for him at the ministry of war. In 1800 he became a dragoon in Napoleon's army, and the invasion of Italy took him to Milan.

MARIE HENRI BEYLE (Stendhal). BEYLE, MARIE HENRI (Stendhal). (17831842), betterknown by his nom de plume of Stendhal, French author, was born at Grenoble
http://29.1911encyclopedia.org/B/BE/BEYLE_MARIE_HENRI_STENDHAL_.htm
MARIE HENRI BEYLE (STENDHAL)
BEYLE, MARIE HENRI (STENDHAL) (1783-1842), better known by his nom de plume of STENDHAL, French author, was born at Grenoble on. the 23rd of January 1783. With his father, who was an avocat in the parlement of Grenoble, he was never on good terms, but his intractable disposition sufficiently explains his unhappy childhood and youth. Until he was twelve years old he was educated by a priest, who succeeded in inspiring him with a lasting hatred of clericalism. He was then sent to the newly established cole Centrale at Grenoble, and in 1799 to Paris with a letter of introduction to the Daru family, with which the Beyles were connected. Pierre Daru offered him a place in the ministry for war, and with the brothers Daru he followed Napoleon to Italy. Most of his time in Italy was spent at Milan, a city for which he conceived a lasting attachment. Much of his Chartreuse de Parme seems to be autobiographical of this part of his life. His posthumous works include a fragmentary Vie de Napoleon (1875); Mlanges dart et de littrature (1867); Chroniques ita1iennes (1885), including LAbbesse de Castro, Les Cenci, Vittoria Accorambon-i, Vanina Vanini, La Duchesse de Palliano, some of which has appeared separately; Romans et nouvelies and Nouvelles indites (1855); Correspondance (2 vols., 1855); Lamiel (ed. C. Stryienski, 1889); his Journal 1801-1814 (ed. Stryienski and F. de Nion, 1888), of which the section dealing with the Russian and German campaigns is unfortunately lost; Vie de Henri Brulard (1890), a disguised autobiography, chiefly the history of his numerous love affairs; Lettres intimes (1892); Lucien Leuwen (ed. J. de Mitty, 1894); Souvenirs degotisme (ed. C. Stryienski, 1892), autobiography and unpublished letters.

His masterpieces The Red and the Black and The Charterhouse of Parma provide incisive and ironic depictions of love and the will to power. Stendhal was born Marie Henri Beyle on Jan. 23, 1783, in Grenoble. He was thus a child of the 18th century who lived well into the 19th. He early developed a dislike for his father and an undue attachment to his mother. She died when he was 7 years old. Stendhal soon displayed the customary pattern that develops from such emotional situations: a hatred for authority and a search for a surrogate mother. Early Training and Career Stendhal's schooling was under the Ideologues, a group of 18th-century investigators of psychology, a training that set him apart from the later romantic authors. From this schooling, as well as from an intensive study of Ideologue writings (especially those of Destutt de Tracy) that h.....
