Danish antiques - Scandinavian antiques - European antiques
From a corner shop to Northern Europe's largest house of antiques Green Square was founded in 1974 by two antiques aficionados, Mads Holst and Lars Holbak. The company started life as a small corner shop in Copenhagen selling restored furniture to the general public. The business blossomed and in the course of the following 10 years, Mads Holst and Lars Holbak found themselves shipping larger and larger quantities of antique furniture to buyers in the USA and Germany. Today, Green Square is based in a huge complex of showrooms and workshops just 10 minutes from downtown Copenhagen. The company focuses exclusively on purchasing and restoring genuine antiques. Our business is based on competence, craftmanship and care with some 85% of sales going to professional buyers all over the world. Our mission is to pass on antiques from one generation to another, from and to people with a deep understanding of and respect for the value of genuine antiques.

The best from Scandinavia and China Green Square works exclusively with genuine antiques from all periods and embracing all styles. Scandinavia is one of the most attractive markets in Europe for exquisite quality antiques. We draw on a wide network of sources throughout the Nordic countries to ensure a constant supply of genuine antiques, carefully restored by highly skilled craftsmen in our own workshop in Copenhagen. Another unique aspect of Green Square is the biggest and most beautiful selection of

WHAT IS SQUARE FOOT GARDENING?
Square Foot Gardening is a technique of intensive planting developed by a retired civil engineer, Mel Bartholomew, in the 1970's. Mel describes the technique in his book, Square Foot Gardening as "a system of laying out, planting, and maintaining a productive, attractive garden in any amount of space. The garden is based on a grid of 1-foot by 1-foot squares, with single seeds or plants placed in carefully determined spacings." Mel goes on to say, "The square foot system lets you make the most of your garden space to conserve the amount of water, soil conditioners, and labor needed to produce a maximum amount of food in that space. A square foot garden takes only one-fifth the space and work of a conventional single-row garden to produce the same harvest." 67. The Magic Square Record
Includes short description of magic squares. Keeps records for largest handwritten squares between 1975 and 1990.
http://www.recordholders.org/en/records/magic.html
The Largest Magic Square
A magic square is a quadratic scheme of numbers which adds up vertically, horizontally and diagonally to the same sum. Example: (sum is 15 for each row, column and diagonal) There is no such thing like a record for finding the world's largest magic square. There are well-known algorithms for constructing an arbitrarily large magic square. It is easy to compute very large magic squares. However, the records in this list are for printing or writing magic squares. You can read more about magic squares at forum.swarthmore.edu/alejandre/magic.square.html Interesting records for multi-magic squares (not only the sum of the numbers but also the sum of their squares, cubes, etc. must be the same) can be found at www.multimagie.com BOOKS:
The Zen of Magic Squares, Circles and Stars
Solving Magic Squares
The Rules
  • The magic square must be written/printed on paper. It is not sufficient just to calculate it by a computer. It is allowed to compose the magic square from many sheets of paper, but they MUST lay together to form one scheme of numbers. This scheme must be a square, not just any rectangle. To verify the sums in each row/column and diagonal a test run of the used computer program should be made under supervision of a computer/ mathematics specialist who can prove that the program is correct.

a lesson by Amar Patel
based on Ch 6 of Using Statistics by Travers, Stout, Swift, and Sextro
Oh no! Calvin sees that a math lesson is waiting for him at his house. Can it really be that frightening? He doesn't like math, especially statistics, but the subject of statistics can be a very powerful tool in his life if he only knew how to use it. He could use it to see if a given die is fair, to see if a class favors one number over the others, or to even see if a certain basketball player is better than the rest. You could use statistics to do this also. Read the introduction and move on to the lesson and see if what Calvin sees is really that scary.
Introduction
This is a lesson about statistics, in particular the chi-square statistic. The material in this lesson will enable you to be able to understand statistical terms such as expectation, significance, and chi-square.
Requirements for this lesson:
Excel 5.0 and a computer which can run both Excel and the Web Browser.
This is where the lesson fits in the NCTM Standards To start the lesson look at the Key Problem and see what kind of dilemma might be encountered which would call on Chi-Square to handle.

70. SQUARE DANCE
Kurzbeschreibung und verschiedene Links zum Thema werden geboten.
http://www.nefkom.net/preller/squaredance.htm
SQUARE DANCE Was ist Square Dance? Square Dance - Links Was ist Square Dance?

Part 2 is here
- there are a total of 7 parts and all parts are on this Web site - Go Here to Print - I've been encouraged by the group of quilters who meet regularly in the Chat room on this site to offer up a Mystery Quilt all of our own. Since I've always thought it would be fun to design one I said "Yes". [If you don't know what a Mystery Quilt is read the previous feature here with lots of links and more about mysteries. Also see the Links section on Mystery Quilts on the Web.] Size? I hope you'll have some fun with this one - I won't spoil the mystery - but just so you know a little of what you'll be making: it's a wall quilt of 40" x 40" approximate finished size. It is suitable as a project to make larger for a full size quilt (and I'll talk a little about that at the end of the project). Technique?

Square One TV First Show Last Show Genre Kids Network PBS Slot Day Various Slot Time Various Jumped The Shark when... Votes Never Jumped Mathnet Kate Monday replaced by Pat Tuesday Other Thoughts:
  • I remember watching this show way back in the 80s when I was three and four and five. My favorite part was the "Math-Net" skit, although the song about the "Nine" times table, ("Nine, nine nine! It all comes back to nine!") was stuck in my head for a good seven or eight years. Anyway, the show jumped the shark when they replaced Kate, the blonde, with Kate, the strawberry blonde. I'm not sure exactly, because I was very young, but I think this happened around the episode when she broke her leg. I adored Square One! That was one of the shows I watched religiously when I was in grade school. Mathnet was my favourite part of the show. I don't remember much else about the show, except a song about probability that keeps getting stuck in my head. "Probability/ Don't you mess with me/Long as there's a ghost of a chance!" Anyone else remember that? never ever JTS!!! this show was the coolest. I remember the video game math man. and mathnet with george frankly and the other lady (two actually). I used to watch after school. I think in middle school we used to watch in math class occaisonally.

Sewing Four Star Square
free Mystery Quilt pattern
Sewing on the corner squares and turn them into triangles. If you want to Print this Page and have trouble, Click to go to this Printing Page Thanks to Mary Ellen Hopkins for teaching this technique in a workshop I took with her. This is her adaptation of the technique for putting on connecting corners. See her excellent book, It's Okay to Sit on My Quilt, or any of the books in her Connecting Up series of books. Step One: Pair up the squares. To the left is the square cut from Fabric B in 4.5 inches and two smaller 2.5 inch squares in Fabric A. Step 2: To the right is the B square with the Fabric A put on top with right side of both fabrics together Step Three: Sew. To the left is the sewing example. You do not need to mark this diagonal. Just start in one corner and sew to the opposite seam. If you sew so your stitching line veers slightly toward the corner you will have a straight seam when you press.

Half.com *Also starring: Albert Finney Maggie Smith , Judith Ivey, Betsy Brantley, Jennifer Garner , Peter Maloney, Robert Stanton Reviewer Roundup Harvey Karten review follows Steve Rhodes read the review Review by Harvey Karten No Rating Supplied Given a moderately feminist twist by Agnieszka Holland in a beautifully photographed new movie, "Washington Square" features Jennifer Jason Leigh in the role of Catherine Sloper, an awkward girl who becomes her own woman and gains a comeuppance against the two men whose mixed feelings toward her caused so much distress. Adapted from the Henry James novel by screenwriter Carol Doyle and photographed in Baltimore by Jerzy Zielinski, this "Washington Square" may disappoint those who prefer the theatrical revenge conclusion of the Roundabout Theater's production but will please those who like their movies to remain close to the literary designs of the novelists. "Washington Square" shows its wares realistically with only a brief outpouring of histrionics, and conveys a tidy look at a portion of New York society a century and a half ago.
