She attended the Putnam Female Seminary in Ohio, and then spent a summer with her father at Summit, Rio Grande County, Colorado. After deciding to become an actress, Robins worked at the Boston Museum Company and toured with James O'Neill's Monte Cristo Traveling Company and the Booth and Barrett Dramatic Company.
