Oregon In 1848
compiled by Stephenie Flora © 2004
During the winter of 1848 gold was discovered in California. The stream of travelers that had previously chosen the Oregon country for their destination now turned their wagons toward California. Consequently, the emigrants to Oregon in 1848 was a comparatively small one. It is estimated that there were less than a thousand new arrivals. Captains of 1848 *CM: Capt. Charles Miller party *BW: Capt. Bolivar Walker. Departed from Peters Creek, MO May 5 and reached Oregon City, Oct. 1, 1848. Many of the members of this train settled near Silverton in Marion County. Emigrants To Oregon In 1848 NOTE: All women are listed by their maiden names, if known, EVEN if they were married at the time of emigration. Anyone wishing to be listed as a researcher for one of these families is welcome to contact me at the address at the bottom of this page. All additions and corrections are welcome. This is an ongoing project and I acknowledge that there may be individuals missing. *BW: ADAMS, Frances ( - ): m'd ADAMS, William
