Background
When the United States entered WWI in 1917 she desperately needed some fighter aircraft. The French meanwhile had just put the new Spad 13 C.1 into production and was not going to adopt the newly developed Nieuport 28 C.1, which they saw as an inferior machine. This was an opportunity America couldn’t refuse so they a purchased 297 of the aircraft.
The 95th Aero Squadron was the first to receive the new fighter and this occurred in late February 1918. The 94th followed a few weeks later but as there were no guns available at the time the first patrols were made with the aircraft unarmed.

The Panthers came from behind in both games to sweep the Bulldogs, 5-4 and 4-3. In the first game, the Bulldogs (2-2) opened the scoring in the first inning when Drew Sandri singled bringing home Steve Sherman. Daniel Pruitt hit his first homerun of the season to bring in three more runs before Panther starter Ronnie Robinson (1-0) recorded the final out of the inning. The Panthers (2-0) responded in the third inning when Dustin Phillips brought home Kevin Kawasaki on a fielder's choice. Phillips' check swinging bunt brought home Kawasaki, as Bulldog starter Judson Ballard (1-1) threw home but catcher Grant Rembert was unable to hold onto the ball for the out. Georgia State tied the game in the fifth inning. Rusty Bennett doubled to left center bringing home Kawasaki and Phillips to slice the Bulldog lead to one run. After UNCA made a pitching change,Tim Burgesssingled to right field to score Bennett and tie the game.

MT. ZION CEMETERY
(Duncan Road) Compiled and contributed by David Donahue This cemetery is located at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Duncan Road. It occupies a hilly site not very suitable for a cemetery. The area within the 1989 limits of the cemetery was full when the cemetery was visited that year. When visited in 1997, additional areas on the eastern and northern edges of the cemetery were cleared, though no burials had taken place in these areas. The cemetery receives fair maintenance. This cemetery was recorded March 25, 1989, was checked October 4, 1989, and was revisited January 20, 1997. Badgett, Malvina [see Duncan, Malvina Badgett] Ballard, Cora A. The boat plans we show here are for you to build a boat from 'Scratch'. To be more specific ... Using the boat plans shown below and a collection of appropriate materials you build the boat from "scratch" ... You make the frames from the patterns supplied and then you make patterns for each subsequent part as you proceed to build the boat...See below for details of a typical plan & frame patterns ...
