The brilliant and evil Chinese scientist Dr. Fu Manchu is on a hunt for the tomb of Genghis Khan, whose sword and mask are said to contain supernatural powers. British agent Nayland Smith and Sir Lionel Barton, an official at the British Museum, hope to find the tomb before Dr. Manchu can carry out his nefarious scheme of world domination. But shortly after Sir Lionel reveals his plans for an expedition, he is kidnapped by Manchu's henchmen. Barton's daughter Sheila is determined to continue her father's work and accompanies the team on the expedition, along with her fiance Terrence Granville. When Terry tries to set a trap for Dr. Manchu with a fake mask and sword, he is captured and finds himself caught precariously between Dr. Fu Manchu's ingenious tortures and the amorous attentions of the Doctor's daughter, Fah Lo See. To make matters worse, Dr. Fu Manchu has invented a terrifying "death ray."
The ever-popular character of Dr. Fu Manchu is the brainchild of Sax Rohmer (1883-1959). The English writer, whose real name is Arthur Sarsfield Ward, created thriller novels based on characters such as the female criminal mastermind Sumuru and the Parisian Detective Gaston Max. Rohmer's most successful series by far was the Fu Manchu novels, which spanned from 1913's

London Blue Plaques
Actor and writer Stephen Fry poses outside 54 Eaton Square in London - the former home of actress Vivien Leigh - during the launch of 'Handheld History'  Blue plaques are among the most familiar features of the London streetscape. They adorn the fa§ades of buildings in areas as different as Primrose Hill, Soho and Wimbledon; some of these buildings are grand, others look very ordinary, but all are connected by the fact that a remarkable person lived or worked there at some point in history. Blue plaques celebrate great figures of the past and the buildings that they inhabited. They open a window into another time by showing us where the great and the good have penned their masterpieces, developed new technologies, lived or died. Actors, authors, politicians, painters, scientists, sportsmen, campaigners and reformers – people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds – have all been commemorated in this way. The blue plaques scheme has been run by English Heritage since 1986, and continues to grow at a rate of around twenty plaques each year. From 2004, the scheme will be extended across England on a region-by-region basis; there are already blue plaques in Merseyside, Birmingham, Southampton and Portsmouth.

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a magical order which flourished in England at the turn of the century, is one of the most influential organizations in recent history to have had an effect on western magical beliefs and practices. Much of its ritual has been published in readily-accessible form; yet there still remain many vagaries and uncertainties about the Order, not least with regard to its members.
Most accounts focus primarily on the principal figures who played a role in its founding and turbulent history, S. L. Mathers, Wynn Westcott, W. B. Yeats, A. E. Waite and Aleister Crowley. Of these men and their machinations in the sometimes bitter power-play which constituted so great a part of the Order’s history, so much has been written elsewhere that it would be pointless to discuss it in detail here. Instead, I want to try to clarify the possible connections of various writers of weird fiction whose names have been linked at one time or another with the Order of the Golden Dawn. Some of these indubitably were members of the Order; for others there is some evidence to suggest links, but no conclusive proof; and for several writers whose names have been put forward, there is little or no evidence at all.
