BIOGRAPHY

Mary Roberts Rinehart was a popular mystery and romance novelist during the first half of the 20th century. Born into a poor family in Pittsburgh in 1876, Mary attended high school and then trained in nursing at a Pittsburgh hospital for several years before meeting and marrying her husband, Dr. Stanley Rinehart.
The Rineharts lived a secure life until the stock market crash of 1903, which bankrupted them. To help support the family, Mary began writing for magazines. She continued to write, steadily, for the rest of her life. She began by writing plays, then tried serialized fiction, as it paid more. She soon wrote mysteries, and her first novel, The Circular Staircase (1908) was a well-received and critically acclaimed mystery. This mystery was remade as a play

Erotica and Pornography
page: One of the first major new gay male pornographers to emerge in the wake of the new openness is Larry Townsend (b. 1936). Although he does write novels, he is perhaps at his best and certainly at his most characteristic in The Leatherman's Handbook In this ostensibly nonfiction work, the tone is much darker than anything in Rechy but entirely without the apologia of the Genet imitators. For Townsend, sex means cruelty and control. His pornographic vision is of the sort that Perkins has described as "assaultive." Though Townsend theorizes that sadomasochism is an exercise in trust, there is an edge of danger to the sex play unique to his powerful vision here and in his fiction. Sponsor Message.
Explicit, perverse, and perpetual man-with-man sex also distinguishes the All trilogy of Dirk Vanden (Richard D. Fullmer, b. 1933):
