MILLER CEMETERY, MILLERSBURG 1. The MILLER cemetery was established in 1850, in which year Mr. William McClain was buried there, in the far northwest corner. The cemetery is positioned at the corner of Woods Road and Millersburg Drive in a rural area about 5 miles north of Millersburg, Oregon. It is enclosed with a chain link fence, but is not being maintained. Rows are laid out running north and south. It is still being used for burials; some as recent as 1997. The oldest portion of the cemetery, at the northwest corner, is in very poor condition and has suffered some vandalism. About a dozen headstones are either damaged so badly that it is impossible to be certain of the information they bear, or are completely gone. These are reflected below with appropriate question marks. 2. Directions to travel to the cemetery: (Located 1 1/2 miles from Interstate-5) Exit 238 from I-5. The ramp empties onto Old Hwy 99E. Travel west on 99E 1/2 mile to north on Morningstar Drive. Go 500 feet to west on Millersburg Drive. Go 1 mile to Woods Road which runs south only, and is not marked with identifying road sign.

Consumer High-Def Has Arrived
A consumer high-definition camera is on the market making HD accessible to the consumer videophile. Here's a review of the consumer JVC HD Cam complete with sample frames. The documentation indicates only one CCD so quality is certainly a concern. The review indicates the advanced digital signal processors (DSPs) compensate for the single CCD. Personally, I'm very fond of Sony products for their quality and reliability. They too have an HD Cam now, the . It is beautiful. Their is terrific, too. As is Canon's . So many things to acquire, so little time (and money) to get them all.

Bed-tax battle
A semantic war with money overtones By HENRY J. WATERS III, Publisher, Columbia Daily Tribune Published Friday, December 6, 2002 C Lorah Steiner says that this was the idea behind the tax approved by voters in 1999 and that the ensuing city ordinance is proper. Gartner, of the Downtown Columbia Associations, wants some of the money to support events such as the Twilight Festival. Steiner, of the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau, believes the money should be used to promote overnight stays by visitors. After the election, the city council’s enabling legislation said the tax must be spent to generate overnight stays. Recently, in reaction to Gartner’s allegation that the money is not being spent in accordance with ballot language, City Attorney Fred Boeckmann said the city ordinance is within bounds. Well, consistency is in the eye of the beholder. Gartner and her downtown patriots question Boeckmann’s explanation. But the law and a vigorous strain of reality are on Steiner’s side. Legislatures have a degree of latitude in refining the use of taxes approved by voters. The council could not have diverted the money from tourism to, say, streets, but it can make the interpretation contained in its post-election ordinance. Festivals and events still can and will be funded if they show promise of bringing overnight visitors. To this end, lots of bed-tax money is given to the Show Me State Games, and nary a whimper of complaint can be heard from the motel-hotel crowd.

That results of that effort are shown below. At the end of each entry is a indication of what section of the cemetery the stone is located in.
