Biographical Sketch
Ottoline Violet Anne Cavendish-Bentinck Morrell (1873-1938) was the daughter of Lieutenant-General Arthur Bentinck and his second wife, Augusta Mary Elizabeth. Ottoline had three older brothers and a half-brother from Bentinck's first marriage. She spent the early years of her childhood in the sheltered manner of upper class children of the time, raised largely by a nurse and servants, spending time at both the country house and the summer house in London. Ottoline's father had expectations of succeeding his cousin, the fifth Duke of Portland, which were disappointed when Bentinck died first in 1877. This left the family in rather straitened circumstances until the Duke of Portland settled the succession of the title and an allowance on Ottoline's half-brother in 1878, and then died a year later. The sixth Duke of Portland and his family moved into the family seat at Welbeck a few weeks later.

Questions and Answers
If you want to be depressed, read these answers by Saudis to a TV interviewer's questions "Would you, as a human being, be willing to shake hands with a Jew?" and "If a child asks you 'Who are the Jews?' what would you answer?"
I'm sure the answers would be quite different if Jews were asked "Would you, as a human being, be willing to shake hands with an Arab?" and "If a child asks you 'Who are the Arabs?' what would you answer?"
Thanks to my old and dear friend Jim K. for the link.

Shoppolis Islands Information Twin Wolves (in pewter) by Gaston Winston Peale The Kissing Squirrels Jewelry Box One of the most famous pieces of art on SI is the "Kissing Squirrels" jewelry box, a magnificent work in pewter and oak. The piece was made from galley ware from the Prize Mary, our first ship. The oak was taken from parts of the ship when she was dismantled where Kitt is now. Alan Page Gates, an original able seaman aboard the ship had taken ill in his small shop. He had no wife at the time, and was alone. During his illness, Margaret Stiles Blaine Shopp, wife of Captain Everett Shopp tended to him and, in his opinion, "saved my life." For this, he made the Kissing Squirrels jewelry box for her. Over time, Gates became one of SI's most noted maker of jewelry cases and music boxes.
