JAMES CARTER, III(3) 1750-1817 James, born in 1750 in Frederick Co., VA, the first son of Hannah Chenoweth and James Carter, represents the largest known line of Chenoweth-Carter descendants. James was 14 when his mother died. His father had died some 6 years earlier. As part of the estate, when he reached adulthood, James received a large tract of land from the estate of his parents. At the age of 21, James married Nancy Ann Bowen, the daughter of Henry Bowen, Jr. and Anna Moon. The Bowens, like James Carter, Sr., had come to Frederick County from Bucks Co., PA. These families lived near Winchester. In 1780, James and Ann sold their lands along with William, the brother of James, and moved to Pennsylvania. About this same time they are both credited with service in the Revolutionary War from Pennsylvania, for which they received land grants in Washington Co., PA. This is where they settled. Here, before 1800, James, with his sons, built a mill near the town of Amity. James and Ann had 9 children, eight of whom grew up to marry. James died in Washington County at the age of 67 and Ann outlived him by 11 years. Both left wills in Washington County naming their children. James and Ann are buried in a Carter plot, Amity Presbyterian cemetery, Amity, PA.

Main HISTORY OF HOMŒOPATHY
AND ITS INSTITUTIONS IN AMERICA
By William Harvey King, M. D., LL. D.
Presented by Sylvain Cazalet CHAPTER I
THE WESTERN COLLEGE OF HOMŒOPATHIC MEDICINE.
By David Herrick Beckwith, M. D., Cleveland, Ohio. The feasibility of establishing a homœopathic college in Cleveland was discussed by the physicians of the new school of medicine in the west in May, 1849, though no definite action was taken. June 9 of the same year a circular was issued by T. V. Morrow, dean of the Eclectic Medical Institute of Cincinnati, in part as follows : "Resolved : That we invite the homœopathic physicians of the United States, and of the west especially, to unite in recommending and nominating a professor to fill the chair of homœopathy in the Eclectic Medical Institute." Just what the strong personality of Dr. Rosa and the stronger truths of homœopathy in influencing the eclectic students toward homœopathy had to do with the decision of the board of trustees is not for us to say. Meanwhile a college was being formed in Cleveland. March 20, 1859, a meeting of the physicians of the west was held at the Dunham house, now the Forest City house, at which an organization was effected with John H. Wheeler, M. D., president ; A. H. Burritt, M. D., vice-president ; Earl Tiffany, secretary, and Dudley Baldwin, treasurer. June 21, of the same year, the trustees presented a plan for formal organization, with a course of study for the session of 1850-1851. The following faculty was chosen :

97. Benjamin Goodner
Was present with Ernie Pyle on the Island of le Shima when Ernie was killed. 1e Edwin Fulton Goodner, born 1853; died 1871, age 18.
http://goodnerfamilybook.goodner.info/benjamin_goodner.htm
Benjamin Goodner Benjamin Goodner , the seventh child of Conrad and Elizabeth (Scherrer) Goodner, was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee, June 4 th Here he remained until he was almost nine years of age, when in May of 1804, his father sold the farm on which they were living and moved away. It is thought that they lived in Greene County for awhile, but if so their stay there was brief, for they moved to Smith County, Tennessee, shortly after their removal from Sullivan County. Benjamin then received the first rudiments of education in the backwoods schools of Sullivan County. The family remained in Smith County until about 1811 or 1812, when they removed to the Illinois Territory. Benjamin, being then 16 or 17 years of age, accompanied them. In 1813, the family was living in Johnson County, Illinois Territory, residing near old Fort Massac. They lived here a year or so, and then removed to Randolph County, and from there to St. Clair County, where they finally made their permanent resting place. The first requisite in those early pioneering days was to make a living, and in this Benjamin helped his father on the farm.
