St. Francis grad Jason Turner has a pretty image and a pretty big mouth, but he looks to silence his doubters on the gridiron
By Chuck Schilken, News-Press and Leader As far as St. Francis graduate Jason Turner is concerned, they are all saying the same thing. advertisement "People think I'm soft," said the 2002 All-Area Player of the Year, who is now preparing for his first season at middle linebacker at the University of Oregon. It gives him the chance to prove everyone wrong, which he usually does in emphatic fashion on the field. "It [ticks] me off that people think I'm soft, and then I'm in a hole making a tackle," said Turner, who has become known for his intense play and loud mouth on the field. "I like to be underestimated. It gives you a little edge, a little fury, if people think you're a joke." "He never got a full spring," said Ducks linebackers coach Don Pellum, who thinks Turner might get a shot at playing on special teams, as well.

Information Information about me. About Erik Max Francis. Here's some random information about me, in no particular order:
    • I live in San Jose, California. Before I moved here in 1987, I lived on the East Coast in Connecticut and rural New York.
    • I have strong political views, but prefer not to get into political discussions (they rarely accomplish anything other than getting everyone involved more upset). I could be best described as liberal on domestic issues, and conservative when it comes to foreign policy, but there is some overlap. I certainly would not label myself as either a Democrat or Republican.
    • I'm a programmer by profession; I work exclusively on Unix and Unix-like systems. The operating systems I work on most frequently are Linux and Solaris . The languages I enjoy using the most for large projects are C++ and Python (leaning more and more toward Python as time progresses), though I know C extensively, appreciate Java, often use shell scripts, frequently take advantage of , and fairly reluctantly have been known to use Perl . I'm familiar with, although not really proficient, in a variety of other languages, including Forth, Lisp, Logo, Prolog, and Scheme. I make it a point to learn new languages whenever possible; I have a particular fondness for

  • Notes.
Introduction:- Bacon's real claim to fame is: not that he, as the lord chancellor, in 1621, was removed from office for accepting a litigant's bribe; nor, that he was the real writer of the Shakespearean plays (one of the controversies in English literature, the "Baconian controversy") ; but rather Francis Bacon is known as a philosopher, one of the first order. Bacon delineated the principles of the inductive method, which constituted a breakthrough in the approach to science, even though philosophers and scientists of the day, - and seemingly today, yet - repudiated both his theories and methodology, alike. Bacon argued that the only knowledge of importance to man was empirically rooted in the natural world; and that a clear system of scientific inquiry would assure man's mastery over the world. He was the originator of the expression, "Knowledge is power." He was quite taken up by the "materialist" theories and the resultant discoveries of both Copernicus and Galileo . Bacon, along with Galileo are known in the literature as "the great anti-Aristotelians who created the 'modern scientific' view of Nature."

    Primus Sucks!
    by Audrey Ednalino
In high school I thought I was punk rock with a capital P. But that was all in my head, my own little punk rock fallacy. Reality: I was mostly known for being pathetically inept when it came to the opposite sex. To this day I'm not quite clear whether I was the real dork or if the guys I obsessed over were dorkier than me.
Boy, did I pine over the biggest posers.
One boy in particular, Francis, comes to mind. I had this love-hate thing when it came to him. Either I thought he was The Shit, or I just thought of him as shit.
Basically, Francis was this guy who I thought was pretty cool, and I wanted to get the opportunity to get to know him, but it just never happened. Maybe all my memories are tinged with bitterness, but that's just too bad, isn't it?
Anyhow, initially I noticed Francis because when you live in a place like Bakersfield, finding other Asian faces is pretty much a novelty. And to find someone at my high school that didn't listen to jock rock or cheesy radio music was even more rare. Francis and I went to the same school from junior high up through high school, but we never really had a reason to talk to one another. Not even when we had the same classes senior year, or were on the staff of the school paper the same semester. It's almost as if we did everything within our abilities to avoid each other.
I remember Francis as this lanky Korean skate rat with bangs he always had to push out of his eyes. When we were 15, Francis was the drummer in some band that went by the acronym O:RTK. I later found that this stood for Operation: Right To Know. (Francis was a big government/alien conspiracy theorist.) One of my friends who had French class with Francis told me that he used to write poems about necrophilia in her notebook. In high school he morphed into a "punker than thou" cynic who hung out with a mix of thuggish, gutter dirt punks and hip-hop skater boys. He used to mob through the school parking lot with his friends Ryan and Wes, in his silver pick-up. Francis came off as being really cool in his aloofness and indolence. (I later deduced that this really meant he was a bitch, pure and simple.)

Just a week before they dropped off the tour, Drew Ailes met up with From Autumn To Ashes bassist Josh Newton to discuss a few things. comments post comment
How are things so far on the tour? Things are good so far, we're having a good time. Is it intimidating at all to be on a tour with this many people? It's not intimidating, if anything it's kind of fun just because there's so many different bands to see and people to meet. I don't know, there's plenty to do. It's cool, I like it. Being a band that's known for their innovation and change in the songs, what can bands expect on the new material? We've kind of gone further in each direction. We've gotten heavier but more cohensive, not as spastic as it used to be. With, like, the...I don't want to say mellower stuff, because it's not really that mellow but it's more moody, also I think those became better songs too. I think the musicianship has improved quite a bit, which I think the ideas are just more cohesive in either direction. So did you have a longer time to actually do all the actual songwriting? Plenty of time to prepare everything?

It was now lunch time and they were all sitting under the double green fly of the dining tent pretending that nothing had happened.
“Will you have lime juice or lemon squash?” Macomber asked.
“I’ll have a gimlet,” Robert Wilson told him.
“I’ll have a gimlet too. I need something,” Macomber’s wife said.
“I suppose it’s the thing to do,” Macomber agreed. “Tell him to make three gimlets.”
The mess boy had started them already, lifting the bottles out of the canvas cooling bags that sweated wet in the wind that blew through the trees that shaded the tents.
“What had I ought to give them?” Macomber asked.
“A quid would be plenty,” Wilson told him. “You don’t want to spoil them.”
    “Will the headman distribute it?”
    “Absolutely.”
Francis Macomber had, half an hour before, been carried to his tent from the edge of the camp in triumph on the arms and shoulders of the cook, the personal boys, the skinner and the porters. The gun-bearers had taken no part in the demonstration. When the native boys put him down at the door of his tent, he had shaken all their hands, received their congratulations, and then gone into the tent and sat on the bed until his wife came in. She did not speak to him when she came in and he left the tent at once to wash his face and hands in the portable wash basin outside and go over to the dining tent to sit in a comfortable canvas chair in the breeze and the shade. “You’ve got your lion,” Robert Wilson said to him, “and a damned fine one too.”
