STEM Publishing The writings of J. G. Bellett The Pilgrim Fathers. The Pilgrim Fathers. Hebrews 11: 13-16. J. G. Bellett. from Miscellaneous Papers (R. L. Allan) What is declared in these verses of the Epistle to the Hebrews of the fathers in the book of Genesis, is beautifully exhibited, and thereby fully verified by their histories. I feel anxious to consider this a little carefully, the Lord leading the heart (as through circumstances I trust He graciously has done lately) a little more vividly beyond the grave. 2. "They saw the promises afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them." As they died in faith of the promises, so did they live in the full persuasion of them, though still distant. Their history, in like manner, gives beautiful witness of this. Abraham lived in tents with Isaac, and Jacob. That was so indeed. But, then, they were heirs together of the promise. Of this they were, in the midst of their pilgrim-days, fully persuaded. And, therefore, on fitting occasions, they can act upon that full persuasion, in a way which nothing but such persuasion can account for, assuming the dignities and places which the promise warranted. Their "name was to be great and the land was to be theirs," and they would, if the moment called them, act in such character without thinking it robbery. See some instances of this. Abimelech the king of Gerar courts the friendship of Abraham. Abraham at once allows the veil to drop, and puts off the pilgrim-girdle that hid or bound up his royal apparel, and takes headship of the Philistine king. (Gen. 21)

Pilgrim Fathers in the Netherlands
By Jan Kijlstra
One of the nice things of the MMD, in my humble opinion, is the fact that the editors are open-minded, thus allowing side-step topics to its members. I would like to make such a side step, because some time ago an article in my daily newspaper gave some information which may be of interest. It's about America's history. And is the MMD not also highly involved with history, at least partly? [ Sure! Our instruments are pure history! Robbie The city of Leiden, the town where the Pilgrim Fathers lived for several years before sailing to what was to become the USA, has opened the new building of the city-archives. In these archives a lot of information about the Pilgrim Fathers is at hand, and a good deal of it is in English. On the occasion of this opening a new web site was created, where over 300 official documents about these group of English refugees can be found: http://www.leiden.nl/gemeentearchief

Updated 209 days 13 hours 17 minutes ago. Other descriptions of Pilgrim Fathers This article is about the colonists of North America. For the religious travelers, see Pilgrim . For the football teams of this nickname, see Plymouth Argyle F.C. and Boston United F.C. The Pilgrims were a group of English religious separatists who sailed from Europe to North America in the early 17th century , in search of a home where they could freely practice their religion and live according to their own laws. The various members of the group had broken away from the Church of England , feeling that the Church had not completed the task begun by the Reformation . Under the guidance of the Reverends William Brewster and Richard Clifton , a portion of the group left their home in Scrooby and sailed to Amsterdam to escape religious persecution at the hands of their countrymen. They settled in

    Pilgrim Fathers

As presented in the Holland Society Yearbook 1898:
Through the courtesy of the Secretary of State, at Washington, President Vrooman (of the Holland Society), received an advance sheet of a consular report which will be of interest to our members, and is therefore herewith published. Consul Listoe sends from Rotterdam, under date of February 12, 1898, a description of the town whence the Pilgrim Fathers sailed from Holland to America. Consular reports, it should be noted, are usually limited to commercial and industrial subjects; but, in view of the general interest of this subject (the consul says he has received several requests from America for copies of the church records herein given), an exception is made in this case.
    The report is as follows:
One of the points within this consular district possessing most interest for citizens of the United States is undoubtedly the ancient town of Delfshaven, situated on the river Maas (Meuse), a couple of miles below Rotterdam, and, in fact, now a part of this city. The town derives its name (Haven: harbor) from the fact that it formerly was the seaport for the city of Delft, once an important city, where William the Silent - the liberator of the Netherlands - and most of his descendants lie buried, and in later years famous for its manufacture of the decorated porcelain known as delftware. Delft is located eight miles inland from its "haven", on the river Schie, which empties into the Maas.

Pilgrim Fathers The passenger list for the ship Mayflower in 1620 numbered 102, including an infant born during the voyage. Most of the passengers were travelling as families. Passengers who were travelling with their parents can be removed from the list as "duplicates" on grounds that they themselves are descendants of the heads of families and all their descendants are also descendants of those heads of fathers. Wives who were travelling with their husbands are removed from the list as "duplicates" on grounds that their descendants are also the descendants of their husbands. The result is this list of 26 Pilgrim Fathers from whom documented descent is required for membership of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. home Conference Venues Members News ... Gardens for all Seasons Myths and facts... The legend of Robin Hood has been questioned and debated for many years by historians and passionate Nottinghamshire and Yorkshiremen alike - indeed when Peel Holdings announced the new name of the former Finningley, Doncaster airport, Robin Hood’s origins sparked a lively debate in the Houses of Parliament! Many Robin Hood historians now recognise that Robin may well have been a Yorkshireman who was born in Wakefield, lived in Barnsdale Forest and died at Kirklees Priory. Whatever the truth behind the legend, there are many connections within and around Doncaster to encourage visitors to make up their own minds. The history of two of the founder Pilgrim Fathers is a much more factual, but nevertheless fascinating story with its origins firmly established within the Doncaster area. Approximately nine miles south of Doncaster there are a number of places of interest linked to William Bradford and William Brewster, passengers aboard The Mayflower. Scrooby is the birthplace of William Brewster. Its Manor House was the meeting place for those who desired to worship according to the dictates of their own conscience and the house, together with St Wilfrid's Church, where Brewster was fined for non-attendance, stand today. (The Manor House is a private residence and access is by prior arrangement only). In 1606-7 William Brewster held meetings of the Scrooby Separatist congregation here with William Bradford and Richard Clyfton, another Pilgrim Father who preached at the nearby church of Babworth.
