The Murder Case that Put the Reporter Away
It’s been hard to miss the story of the jailing of New York Times reporter Judith Miller, in the hoosegow still for refusing to divulge confidential sources in the Karl Rove-Valerie Plame fiasco. The wall-to-wall coverage of Ms. Miller’s imprisonment is often accompanied by mention of a prior New York Times reporter who went to jail for 40 days under similar circumstances nearly 30 years ago.

This is a compilation of information from printed and individual sources. I have made no attempt to verify the information received from individual sources . All sources are listed at the end of the chapter. Jim (5) JAMES February 6, 1998 From The American Genealogist , Volume 26, page 230-32 James Ferris of Greenwich, Connecticut by Miss Harriet Scofield, Western Reserve Historical Society, 10825-10915 East Boulevard, Cleveland 6, Ohio According to all the published accounts of the Ferris family of Greenwich that possess some degree of accuracy, Jeffrey had a son James, born circa 1643, married circa 1698, whose eldest son James 3 was born 12/18/1699. James 2 is said to have died 11/6/1726, leaving a widow Mary, sons James, Nathaniel and Samuel, and daughters Mary and Hannah. Aside from the improbability, but not impossibility, of a man marrying for the first time at age of about 55 years, and having the above family, this does not fit three original records that have been found, namely: James Ferris and son 103

The Rochester Mausoleum
I.O.O.F. Cemetery The Rochester Mausoleum Company was organized and incorporated on April 8, 1911, for the purpose of constructing and maintaining community mausoleums at and in the vicinity of the City of Rochester, Indiana.
The Rochester Mausoleum was constructed and crypts sold, and bodies accepted for burial therein.
On October 13, 1970, a case was filed in the Fulton Circuit Court, alleging that for more than ten years last past, there had been no elected, qualified and acting officers or directors of the company. Also that for more than 20 years last past, the First National Bank of Rochester, Rochester, Indiana, had acted as trustee of the funds of said company. Also, that the said mausoleum was in a state of extreme disrepair, and constituted a public nuisance and should be removed, requiring the reinterment of all bodies presently interred therein.
In April, 1971, 124 bodies were removed from the Rochester Mausoleum, and reinterred in a mass burial site, along the east side of the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Only three of these have dates.
