In the late 1800's it was customary for authors to publish their works under a pseudonym ( assumed name ). The name "Banjo" came from the name of a race horse, owned by his family, and had nothing to do with the musical instrument. The poems " The Man from Snowy River" and " Brumby's Run " were written somewhere between 1885 to 1900.
