WILLIAM MOORE 1726-1812 AND MARGARET PATTON
(2ND WIFE) 1749-1814
submitted by Martha June Lamb William Moore was born in Ulster Ireland, and came as one of 9 brothers (John, Thomas, Andrew, Alexander, David, Charles, James, Jason) through Philadelphia settling on Borden's Grant in Orange Co., Va. about 1739, according to records taken by Waddell Chalkley. The Muster Militia Roles of 1742 list all but Charles, Jason, and James. It is also said that a younger brother and sister followed later with their mother. A search of records through the Genealogical Society of Ulster in 1965, requested by a descendent Homer Clark, proved negative for locating any evidence of the family there. It is said that the Moore's were of Scotch-Irish extraction and were all Presbyterian. During the 16th century they were forced to leave England to escape religious persecution. As the Moore brothers scattered through the new land, it is thought that William migrated to Rowan Co., N.C. about 1746. It is not known just when Wm. Moore married his first wife Ann Cathy (daughter of George Cathy), nor exactly when she died, but there were 6 children born to them - three sons and three daughters, the last birthdate being 1782.

    ALEXANDER/MCLAUGHLIN?
My Great-great-grandfather, Anda/Andy? A. ALEXANDER, b. c1815/VT was living in Elmore, Lamoille County, Vermont, according to 1850 Census. His wife was Susan/Soucin? b. c1817 in Massachusetts, supposedly on Martha's Vineyard. Children at that time were Nelson 14, Mary 12, Emeline 9, Alvin (my gr-grandfather) 3, and Samantha lmo. I have conflicting information on her surname. I was always told it was MORRIS or MORGAN, but a cousin who should know, thinks it was MCLAUGHLIN. Are there any records to confirm this? Thanks for any help on this

This summary of Van Rensselaer leases records was compiled many years ago by Bertha Mattuck from records at the NYS Archives. It may be incomplete due to missing records at the Archives. It is organized by lot number, which generally corresponds with the grid number on the Beers 1866 map of Berne, which was based on the original 1787 Van Rensselaer survey. The earliest known leases were in 1784, before the land was surveyed.
