Author: NORRIS, W.E.
Title: Autograph Letters Description: 3 ALsS, 6pp, 12mo, on printed letterheads (one embossed with a crest depicting a phoenix or a crane feeding its young; one on mourning paper), Bellair, Torquay, 23 May 1906, 13 February 1907, and 5 March 1908. To Archibald Marshall, thanking him for sending copies of "Exton Manor" and "Richard Baldock." Norris praises the books, and says of the contemporary state of the novel: "Successes in the way of fiction don't seem to be very numerous just now; but the conditions, in this transition period, are difficult and cramping. Possibly they may become less so when the tedious fight between the 'Times' and other publishers has come to an end, one way or another." Slight foxing to two of the letters, else very good. William Edward Norris (1847-1925); prolific English novelist, friend of Henry James. Wolff collected 42 titles by Norris, describing him as an "almost forgotten novelist who had a real power to depict fashionable people and their often serious predicaments." Archibald Marshall (1866-1934); English novelist, short story writer.

Title: Autograph letter Description: ALS, 4pp, 8vo, on the letterhead of the Union Club, Malta, "Xmas Day" 1902. A long, closely-written, letter to "My dear Streatfield," in which Norris describes his journey to Rome, Naples, and Malta, among other places and lays out plans for future travels: "I was rather stimulated in my desire to proceed to Japan by a Mr. Graham whom I met in Rome. . . I felt that I must really go to Kioto before I died. If I do get that far I shall return, I suppose, by way of America." In very good condition. William Edward Norris (1847-1925); prolific English novelist, friend of Henry James. Wolff collected 42 titles by Norris, describing him as "am [sic] almost forgotten novelist who had a real power to depict fashionable people and their often serious predicaments." Germanic Lineage Register Volume 18, #4; Volume 19
German Research Association
As published in The German Connection
Each of the following listings shows the direct ancestral lineage through the male line of one individual with a Germanic surname. Each direct line is of the format: Surname, [submitter number], (1) given name, (birth-death dates), place of birth, marriage, death or residence (as indicated by b, m ,d, or res), surname of wife; (2) given name of father of (1), (birth-death dates), place of b, m, d, or res, surname of spouse; (3) given name of father of (2). . . etc.
If the wife has a Germanic surname it may be followed as a separate direct line. An asterisk ( ) indicates an immigrant. A question mark (?) indicates information not known. Surnames are not repeated within one direct line unless there is a spelling or name change. Submitters would like to correspond with those sharing their lines or those who would like more information.
When the listings were printed in The German Connection, umlauts were used. For web use all umlauted vowels have been changed to the vowel plus e. Umlauted a as ae ; umlauted o as oe ; and umlauted u as ue. Additionally, any eszett appears as ss. To find a name with any search program, you must spell it exactly as spelled in this file.

You can't have a better tomorrow if you are thinking about yesterday all the time.
Charles P. Kettering suggested by Robert C. Knies, Jr., RN, MSN, CEN ENW ''s Section Editor for Research We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as unsolvable problems.
John W. Gardner suggested by Robert C. Knies, Jr., RN, MSN, CEN ENW ''s Section Editor for Research I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better.
G. C. Lichtenberg suggested by Robert C. Knies, Jr., RN, MSN, CEN ENW ''s Section Editor for Research If we don't change, we don't grow. If we don't grow, we aren't really living.
Gail Sheehy suggested by Robert C. Knies, Jr., RN, MSN, CEN ENW ''s Section Editor for Research Leadership is not magnetic personalitythat can just as well be glib tongue.
It is not 'making friends and influencing people' that is flattery.
Leadership is lifting a person's vision to higher sights,
the raising of a person's performance to a higher standard
