Max Nordau
Max Nordau ), born in Hungary , was a Zionist leader, physician, author, and social critic. He was a co-founder of the World Zionist Organization together with Theodor Herzl , and president or vice president of several Zionist congresses. He was also a social critic who wrote a number of controversial books, including The Conventional Lies of Our Civilisation Degeneration ), and Paradoxes ). Nasrin received Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from Mymensingh Medical College (Bangladesh) in 1984. Working as a gynecologist and anesthesiologist in Dhaka hospitals, she became increasingly aware of and vocal about the status of women in Bengali society. As a result of her writing, political and religious authorities denounced her, ultimately calling for her arrest and execution for blasphemy. With the help of PEN, Amnesty International, and the European Union, she was given asylum in Sweden in 1994. She continues to write fiction, poetry, and articles; and has been awarded the Sakharov prize for Freedom of Thought by the Parliament of the European Union. Background

A MAGYAR ZSIDÓSÁG TÖRTÉNETE
Római kor
Magyarország területén már az idõszámításunk szerinti 2–3. évszázadban, a római Pannonia provinciában éltek zsidók. A római táborok, városok környékén több olyan feliratos emlék került elõ, amely ezt bizonyítja. A zsidó lakosság részint kereskedõkként Rómából, részint közvetlenül Izrael területérõl, rabszolgákként települt az országba. Pannoniából ugyanis három légiót szállítottak át a rómaiak Júdeába, a Bar Kochba vezette szabadságharc (132–135) leverése érdekében. Késõbb a csapatok kisegítõ egységként rabszolgákat hurcoltak magukkal állomáshelyükre, Aquincum ba (ma Budapest északnyugati része) és Savariá ba (a mai Szombathelyre). A pannon légiók izraeli jelenlétét a Bar Kochba utolsó végvára, Bethar mellett feltárt római emléktábla, valamint a Komárom mellett, egy római katona sírjából elõkerült és a Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum éremtárában látható Bar Kochba-érme bizonyítja. Így azon sem kell csodálkoznunk, hogy a mai Magyarország területén, már jóval a magyar honfoglalás (895) elõtt számottevõ zsidó közösségek mûködtek. Intercisa (a mai Dunaújváros) római kori maradványaiból egy emléktábla került elõ, amelyet Alexander Severus császár és anyja, Julia tiszteletére emelt idõszámításunk szerint 225 körül
