People who want to avoid the sexual overtones want to interpret it as metaphor for God's love for Israel or God's love for the Church. Besides that there is the highly erotic sex manual interpretation plus other only slightly less hot interpretations. Which is right? Maybe God is more clever than we imagine: maybe they are all right. The Bible is often frustrating for people especially technical people because it is so poetic. If someone gave me the Song of Solomon and said it was generated by a stupid computer program I would just about believe it, it is that hard to interpret. So I collected some web pages with various interpretations by using Northern Light to search on the words: "Song of Solomon Commentary":

Chronology of Science in the United States 1870-1879 DATE EVENT SUBJECTS In viewing a solar eclipse at Jerez, Spain, on December 22, 1870, Charles Augustus Young (1834-1908) observed that the sun's dark spectral lines briefly reverse at totality. In this he is credited with discovery of the "reversing layer." Astronomy / Physics William Healey Dall (1845-1927) published Alaska and Its Resources (Boston). General or Miscellaneous / Geography and Cartography Standard Oil Company was established by John D. Rockefeller (1839-1937). In 1972, Standard Oil (New Jersey) took the name Exxon Corporation. General or Miscellaneous / Organizations—Industry John Wesley Powell (1834-1902) was put in charge of a Congressionally enacted survey that in 1876 became known as the Geographical and Geological Survey of the Rocky Mountain Region. Powell continued at the head until it was ended in 1879. For a time associated with the Smithsonian Institution, in 1874 the Survey was transferred to the Department of Interior. Government—Federal / Geology Congress effectively assigned to the Army's Signal Service the task of providing meteorological information and weather forecasting, the beginnings of a national weather service, with part of its mission being aid to agriculture and business. At the time, the Signal Service was under the charge of Colonel Albert J. Myer (1829-1880). In 1871, Cleveland Abbe (1838-1916) became associated with the enterprise as a civilian meteorologist.

Venus will pass in front of the Sun on June 8, and skywatchers in many locations around the world will have their first chance in nearly 122 years to see the planet as a black dot against the solar surface. The event is among the rarest of predictable viewing phenomena. Venus transits recur like clockwork, though in an odd pattern. Pairs of these events occurring eight years apart, either in June or December. A pair of December transits will follow a June pair after 105 years. A June pair will come 121 years after a December pair. As seen from Earth, only transits of Mercury and Venus are possible. Both hold an interesting place in astronomical history. The main reason is the slightly different times that the events occur as seen from different locations on the surface of the Earth. The diameter of our planet is appreciable when compared to the distance to Mercury and Venus, allowing astronomers to triangulate on the planets from various points on Earth when they are seen against a bright background as the surface of the Sun. In this way the difference between the distances of the planet and the Sun can be found. Because of its considerably larger size, Venus is better for this purpose, and in fact, during the 18th and 19th centuries those rare transits of Venus provided astronomers with the best opportunity for measuring the absolute scale of the solar system from Keplers third law.

    First Digits
Take a look at a newspaper page listing stock market prices. You might think that each of the numbers from 1 to 9 would occur equally often among the first digits of all the listed prices. Instead, however, you're very likely to find that numbers starting with 1 come up more often than numbers starting with 2, numbers starting with 2 come up more often than numbers starting with 3, and so on. In fact, 1 comes up about 30 percent of the timemuch greater than the expected 11 percent. At the other end, the digit 9 occurs only about 5 percent of the time. The earliest known report of this curious first-digit phenomenon was made by the astronomer and mathematician Simon Newcomb (1835-1909). He observed that the pages of heavily used books of logarithms were grimier at the beginning than at the end, suggesting that fellow scientists tended to look up smaller numbers more often than larger ones. In 1881 in a brief article in the American Journal of Mathematics , Newcomb conjectured that the occurrence of first digits follows a particular probability distribution.
