Removing an irritant
T.K. RAJALAKSHMI The ouster of M.G.S. Narayanan as Chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research is a part of the HRD Ministry's scheme to saffronise the agenda in academia. THE tenure of the Chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) would have expired only in July 2004, but the Union government, specifically the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), hastened the departure from the Council of M.G.S Narayanan, the incumbent, seven months in advance. On December 10, Narayanan, who was away in Kozhikode, Kerala, was informed by his personal secretary that the government had decided to withdraw his nomination as Chairman with immediate effect. In his place, an Additional Secretary of the government was appointed as a temporary measure, pending the nomination of a regular Chairman.
M.G.S. Narayanan.

62. Widening Fissures
Today, Narayanan is under attack not from Marxist historians, but from sectionsthat edited by Marxist Sociologist AR Desai and Sunil Dighe.

Widening fissures
T.K. RAJALAKSHMI As a sign of the deepening ideological fault lines within the ICHR, controversy surrounds the grant of a fellowship. IN the midst of a raging academic debate on the rewriting and review of Indian history, M.G.S. Narayanan, Chairperson of the Indian Council of Historical Research and an eminent historian, wrote in his column in the ICHR newsletter of January-June, 2002 that it was fortunate that "a growing number of historians in India, especially among the younger generation, refuse to hold any philosophy or ideology of history, be it imperialist, nationalist or Marxist, as the last word, the final truth." He added that "certain historians professing the Marxist ideology have been in the habit of claiming infallibility and monopoly of wisdom, branding all other historians as reactionary and communal and treating them as untouchables. This intellectual fascism has to be discouraged."
M.G.S. Narayanan, Chairperson, ICHR.

If you're interested in combining the power of annotations and aspects but can't yet move to Java 5, don't be discouraged; you still have robust options. Several AOP frameworks provide this capability today.
http://www.devx.com/Java/Article/29114 - Aug, 2005 Aspect- vs. Object-Oriented Programming: Which Technique, When? by Narayanan A.R. - [Clicks: 41] This article presents a similar case study. It begins by introducing a problem domain and then demonstrates two solutions: one that uses OOP and one using AOP. The AOP solution uses a JDK 1.5, JUnit, and AspectWerkz implementation. Finally, it demonstrates how to code a few aspects. By the end, you will know all you need to know about using AOP in the real world, including what it tries to solve in software design. overview Sabine Borngraeber is studying the androgen receptor and its interactions with regulators, especially corepressor proteins. Using mutagenesis and FRET, she is also learning how different domains of the receptor interact in response to activation and cause conformational changes within receptor monomers or dimers. In collaboration with Karo Bio, we determined the structural basis of the AR ligand binding domain's unusual coactivator selectivity. Currently, he is investigating the androgen receptor N-terminal domain and its interactions with associated coactivator proteins

Since, all biological events are multifactorial and involve a cascade of genes the data obtained will be used to understand the role of these genes in the complex pathways involved in transplantation. TWO YEARS ago, "Vande Mataram" was on everyone's lips. Last year, it was
"Desh ka salaam". But the aim this year is to make the national anthem, "Jana
gana mana" the song that unites every Indian.
Mr Bharat Bala, who created history of sorts when United Radio and Television
Networks in a unique venture on August 15 last to pay a tribute to martyrs,
gathered thirty classical and folk singers to render the national anthem in their own styles.
An information booklet on the national anthem along with audio and video compact discs rendered by the artistes was released at the special sitting in the central hall of Parliament by President K.R. Narayanan this morning.
Renowned vocalist Pandit Jasraj, one of those who have sung the anthem,
rendered it at the session, held to mark fifty years of the promulgation of the Indian Constitution. Mr Narayanan expressed happiness that so many artistes had come together on the project.
