By Estelle M. Castle
During the year from October, 1915, to October this year, the ranks of the pioneers of Will county have been visibly thinned. Two years ago there were recorded 114 deaths from within and outside the membership of the Will County Pioneers Association. Last year 227 was the number, and this year 433. To the younger generation these pioneers have, in their lifetime, offered examples of integrity and stability that have given character to the community life of Will county. As necrologist, I present the following, as near a complete list as was available, of the settlers called to their eternal reward. Sept. 30, 1915 - Mrs. Elizabeth KRIPPS , 64 years old, at her home, 307 Ross street. A resident of Joliet for forty-five years. Sept. 30, 1915 -

Water park
A water park is an amusement park that features waterplay areas, such as water slides splash pads , spraygrounds (water playgrounds), lazy rivers, or other recreational bathing environments. Water parks in more current states of development may also be equipped with some type of artificial surfing or bodyboarding environment such as a wave pool or a FlowRider.
Evolution of waterparks from spas
Some waterparks are more spa-oriented, e.g. Schwaben Quellen, a member of European Waterparks Association (EWA) has no Water slides, but instead has lots of saunas, steam rooms, "adventure showers", and relaxation-oriented waterplay areas. In fact, the very idea for a Water park may have been inspired by a Hungarian spa

Jenny Lind, who was the great attraction, sang three songs; but I went to see the Chevalier the day after, and he gave me some music on the organ, which made up for all the songs she could sing. When I hear his music I feel so ashamed of all the little sordid feelings in which I have lived; both the pleasures and annoyances that have moved me seem so little and foolish, that I wonder how I can ever give in to vain or bitter feelings again. I can quite believe in Saul and David. I am afraid he is going away soon, and then God knows when I shall hear him again! Do you remember those lines in Milton's 'Hymn on the Nativity'? On Brook Farm
Georgiana Bruce Kirby
from Years of Experience: An Autobiographical Narrative
V. BROOK FARM. One day in the spring following my journey to Melbourne Mr. G. came home with a written copy of the constitution of the Brook Farm Association in his hand. He called me into his study and explained its purport, remarking that he had no doubt that the society would admit me, and also make terms for my brother. There I could readily acquire the arithmetic in which he understood me to be deficient, and I could remain a longer or shorter time as pleased me. If I wished they would take a drive to West Roxbury and see Mr. George Ripley, the president. I confess to a remarkable slowness of comprehension, and my conception of this scheme for the institution of justice in the world was quite vague until I had gone through a practical initiation. At the farm Mr. Ripley said, as illustrating the spirit prevailing there, that Wm. A., a young farmer from New Hampshire, and recently an employe of Theodore Parker's, was going into Boston the next day, and that nothing would give him, Mr. R., more pleasure than to black his boots before he left. This was not intended as an insinuation that this member's boots were in a bad state most of the time, but that Mr. R. had reached a point in brotherly love which had swept the class feeling entirely away. Such facts were almost incredible! The friendly faces of the few who passed through the small oil-clothed reception room, while we were there, promised just the spiritual hospitality I had so longed for; and Mr. Ripley further declared that it made no difference what I wished to learn, as the association was composed largely of cultivated persons filled with a missionary spirit, who were more than ready to make over their intellectual wealth to those who had hitherto been deprived of it. The speaker, while below middle size, had a handsome face and a fine physique. He was then about forty, a scholarly-looking man of most genial disposition. A ready smile lurked in the corners of his eyes, and contrasted well with the comprehensive brow above, which seemed to have pushed back his crisp, dark curls. Any casual observer would have taken him for a professor of philosophy in some learned institution, which, as I afterwards knew, was "his proper place in the universe."

Eliza Lee Follen
ELIZA LEE FOLLEN (1787-1860) was the fifth of thirteen children in a prominent Boston family. Her father was engaged in international trade and diplomacy. Her intellectually accomplished mother assured that her daughters were well educated. In 1819, after the death of their father, Eliza and two of her sisters established their own household. She belonged to a group that founded a Sunday school and met regularly to discuss religious issues. Through this group she met Charles Follen, an intellectual who had fled Germany because official opposition to his democratic views thwarted his academic career. They married in 1828; their only child, a son, was born in 1830. Both Follens were outspoken early members of the Massachusetts antislavery movement. Charles was appointed Harvard's first German professor but was not reappointed because of his abolitionism. Following Charles's death in a shipwreck in 1840, Eliza broadened her activism and publishing, becoming one of Boston's most revered citizens. From 1828-1830 she edited the Christian Teacher's Manual and from 1843- 1850 The Child's Friend, both Sunday school publications. "The Three Little Kittens" has been ascribed to Follen but was of unknown authorship, appended to the English edition of Follen's Little Songs, for Little Boys and Girls and retained in later American editions.
