W. A. Mozart, 1790 portrait by Johann Georg Edlinger Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart January 27 December 5 ) is among the most popular, significant and influential composers of European classical music . His music includes some of the acknowledged pinnacles of piano chamber symphonic religious and operatic music. Although his music's character was unappreciated by some during his lifetime, he has been highly admired by later composers and many of his works have become part of the standard concert repertoire, recognized the world over as masterpieces of the classical style.

His style was very unique, unlike many of the musical styles of his time. People did not appreciate his radical music because they did not understand Mozart's complex and extraordinary music. In his later years, Mozart incorporates many musical elements and style from different countries into his works. His late works include three of his most famous operas, The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, Cosi fan tutte, written in collaboration with Lorenza da Ponte and his last three church pieces, Mass in C Minor, Ave Verum Corpus, and Requiem. Both the Mass in C Minor and Requiem remain unfinished.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Probably the greatest genius in Western musical history, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria, Jan. 27, 1756, the son of Leopold Mozart and his wife, Anna Maria Pertl. Leopold was a successful composer and violinist and assistant concertmaster at the Salzburg court, whose archbishop, Sigismund von Schrattenbach, encouraged the activities of Leopold and his remarkable children.
Wolfgang began composing minuets at the age of 5 and symphonies at 9. When he was 6, he and his older sister, Maria Anna, embarked on a series of concert tours to Europe's courts and major cities. Both children played the keyboard, but Wolfgang became a violin virtuoso as well.
In 1762 the Mozart children played at court in Vienna; the Empress Maria Theresa and her husband, Emperor Francis I, received them cordially. Later the Mozart children displayed (1763-66) their talents to audiences in Germany, in Paris, at court in Versailles, and in London (where Wolfgang wrote his first symphonies and was befriended by Johann Christian Bach, whose musical influence on Wolfgang was profound). In Paris the young Mozart published his first works, four sonatas for clavier with accompanying violin (1764). In 1768 he composed his first opera

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The grand genius of them all, Mozart's works are the most well-known and he has became a common household name. He loved to write operas, but he made a tremendous amount of music for violin, orchestra, voice, and chamber groups. He himself was also a very talented musician, excelling in playing the piano, violin, and an active conductor. His father, Leopold Mozart, was a great composer himself, and pushed Wolfgang and his sister, Maria Anna, musically forward. (Because women did not have as much of an opportunity in music, Maria Anna was a talented singer, but a minor figure in the Mozart family.) Wolfgang composed his first piece, a clavier concerto, when he was only four years old. Leopold, discovering young Mozart's amazing talent, took Wolfgang and Maria Anna to the city of Munich, where they performed for famous noblemen. There, Maria Anna sang like a sweet bird, but it was minute to Wolfgang's piano and violin playing that captured the audience. They were so amazed and delighted that none of them wanted the five-year-old to stop playing. Appropriately, the grand audience called young Mozart a "wonderchild." Once the news of the ageless prodigy spread, royalty in many cities in Europe invited Mozart to play for them. Perhaps the most memorable would be his performance in Austria for a treat to Empress Maria Theresa. There, the little boy accidentally tripped and fell after the show, when the Little Princess, Maria Antoinette, rushed over to help him. Struck by her gratitude, Wolfgang asked her to marry him, causing the crowd to burst into laughter. (The two were not even seven at that point.) Mozart had no idea that she was to be the future queen of France. Although her answer is unknown, it showed that Mozart's character was childish from the instant he was born.

36. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)
A biography of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the most wonderful of all musical geniuses.
http://www.usefultrivia.com/biographies/mozart_001.html
WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART The most wonderful of all musical geniuses was born of a family of musicians at Salzburg, in 1756; and died before completing his 36th year, worn out with excitement and intense activity, having produced an enormous mass of works, amongst which are masterpieces in every department of music, vocal and instrumental, and having effected a revolution in the history of his art. The most intense of musical geniuses was naturally the most precocious. Nozze di Figaro in 1786: he was then thirty, and it marks the high-tide of his genius. It was received with delight; but brought the composer little but applause. In the following year (1787) came his masterpiece, Don Giovanni In 1789 he returned to Vienna for the last time; and was absorbed in lessons, public concerts, and composition, amidst the utmost anxiety from his wife's illness and his own precarious income. In 1791 he undertook his last opera, the

Mozart is one of the heavyweights of classical music, generally placed in the top rank of composers along with Beethoven and Bach ; many consider him the greatest composer of all time. A child prodigy who wrote his first symphony at age 8, Mozart grew into a prolific adult who wrote over 600 pieces of music. Among his most famous works are Eine kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music, 1787) and the operas Don Giovanni (1787) and Die Zauberflote (The Magic Flute, 1791). Mozart died of a mysterious fever at age 35; some have speculated that Mozart was murdered, perhaps by rival composer Antonio Salieri, but no proof exists to support that theory. In the year 2000 a scholarly panel concluded that Mozart died of rheumatic fever.
