CSWEP: Past, Present, Future Robin L. Bartlett - Denison University, CSWEP Chair The stage was set at the Annual Business meeting of the American Economic Association (AEA) December 29, 1970 in Cobo Hall, Detroit, Michigan. A resolution was offered to have a session at the 1971 meetings on the role of women in economic life. And the rest is history. According to an interoffice memo (Chamberlain 1972) of the Ford Foundation from Mariam K. Chamberlain to Marshall A. Robinson, dated January 11, 1972, there were lively gatherings at the AEA annual meetings held December 27-29, 1971 in New Orleans. First Barbara Bergmann chaired the session titled "What Economic Equality for Women Requires." The overflow audience spilled into the corridors and was very sympathetic. Later that same day another gathering took place to form the Caucus of Women Economists and to draft a resolution to present at the AEA's business meeting for action. Two Yale graduate students jointly chaired the meeting. Over 100 men and women - established and novice members of the profession alike - were present. The seven items spelled out in the original draft of the resolution began with: "Resolbed that the AEA endorses the principle that sex discrimination and inequality have no place in the Economics profession." The Caucus wanted discrimination against women in the profession to stop and for the AEA to facilitate that effort. Carolyn Shaw Bell, Catherine Coman Professor of Economics at Wellesley College, was elected chair of the Caucus and was designated to present a modified resolution to the Association's business meeting. Interestingly, this version of the resolution began with: "Resolved that the American Economic Assoction declares that economics is not a man's field." John Kenneth Galbraith chaired the business meeting. One of the first amendments to the resolution was to add "exclusively" to the first sentence (

    Moser Family
    First Generation
Johann Georg Moser was born in 1684 in Germany, probably near Rheinbischofsheim, Baden. He married Eva Eckersweiler of Rothenburg. They immigrated on the Adventure in 1732 , together with Georg's brother Michael Moser, his wife Susanna and children Simon, Jerack (Georg), Anna Barbara and Anna Maria. Also on the Adventure was Leonard Moser (1718-1782). Most Moser family materials state that Leonard was the son of Georg and Eva, but there seems to be very little evidence to support this apart from arrival on the same ship. Adam and Martin Moser, who arrived on the James Goodwill in 1728, are also usually identified as sons of Johann Georg and Eva but are likewise questionable. Moravian records from 1773, as well as a Davidson County court deposition in 1837 by John Beck, age 77, support the notion that Leonard and Adam were brothers.
    Second Generation
Leonard Moser (ca. 1718-1782) m. 1) Maria Kocher, 2) Sarah Binckele Leonard Moser lived in Lancaster Co. PA and Frederick Co. MD early on, and married Maria Kocher in 1744 at the Middletown Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick Co. (at the time part of Prince George's County). He and his second wife Sarah Binckele joined Graceham Moravian Church in Frederick Co. Leonard came to Wachovia in the summer of 1773 to look at land, and appears on the 1774 Surry County tax list, in the region that later became Stokes and eventually Forsyth County. Leonard Jr. and Michael, and possibly some of the other older children, seem to have remained in Maryland when their parents moved to NC. After Leonard's death in 1782, his widow Sarah married Edward Nathaniel Bartley. Her rapid remarriage may have been prompted by a court order that she have her children bound out, and she seems to have sent the two youngest sons, Henry and John, to Maryland at this time. Henry testified on the pension application filed by Michael Moser's widow in 1856 that he married in Maryland before he and Michael left for NC in the autumn of 1790. John Moser was also back in NC by at least 1795, when he married Polly Smith.

    Schor (Shore) Family
    First Generation
Friedrich Schor was born in 1705 in Muttenz, Switzerland, son of Friedrich Schor and Ursula Tschudi. His paternal ancestors are known for several generations further back. In 1729 he married Margaretha Schneider (b. 1708, daughter of Hans Jacob Schneider and Anna Pfau). They emigrated in 1751, but Margaretha died on the voyage. Friedrich and his children came to North Carolina, and he died in Surry Co. NC in 1773. Modern descendants spell the name Shore, and we have switched to this spelling with the third generation.

Some Norwegians feel the young royals' choice of partners has weakened the monarchy
    By Lars Bevanger
BBC News Online in Trondheim The small city of Trondheim in Norway is preparing to host the country's second royal wedding in less than a year.
I think Ari is a good man for Princess Martha - I'll be watching from outside the cathedral on Friday
    Isabel Moser
11-year-old Norwegian flags are everywhere and specially selected flowers in green and white decorate all public spaces, in anticipation of Friday's wedding between Princess Martha Louise and author Ari Behn. More than 500 representatives from international media scurry up and down the street in the sweltering sun, hoping with everyone else the clear blue skies stay until the end of the week. The official wedding colours - a much-debated combination of mint and pink - are starting to appear in the shape of banners and shop front window decorations.

St. Paul's Luthern Church Records 1st book 1851-1874; 2nd book 1875-1901; 3rd book 1901-1909 These records were abstracted in 1962 by Walter C. Davis. The abstracted copy I have is not a very good one, so there could be some errors. According to Walter Davis, the original books were transferred to the archives of the Southeastern Synod, Luthern Church in America. He stated that the actual first book is probably missing. Mr. Davis wrote this note in regards to funerals: "The custom prevailed at that time to have the funeral sermon days and even weeks after death and burial." To make it easier to use, I have put the records into alphabetical order by name rather than date. The first part is Baptisms and funerals. The second part is confirmations. The third part is subscriptions. I do not have any more available information other than what you see. Joy Locke
