Moore Hall
No family can claim to have had a greater impact on local history. The better known family members include, John 1763-1799, President of "The Provisional Republic of Connaught", George Henry, 1811-1870, an avid promoter of the Tenant Right Movement. George, 1852-1933,a founder of the Abbey Theatre and a prominent novelist of his time.
Amid its rich history visitors to Moore Hall will learn how the outcome of a horse race in 1846 saved the lives of many local tenants.
Sadly Moore Hall was badly damaged by fire in 1923.
On a more positive note the restoration is the subject of a proposal presently with the Irish government and a positive outcome is expected.

Realism is commonly defined as a concern for fact or reality and rejection of the impractical and visionary. However, the term realism is used, with varying meanings, in several of the liberal arts ; particularly painting literature , and philosophy . It is also used in international relations In the visual arts and literature, realism is a mid- 19th century movement, which started in France . The realists sought to render everyday characters, situations, dilemmas, and events; all in an " accurate " (or realistic) manner. Realism began as a reaction to romanticism , in which subjects were treated idealistically . Realists tended to discard theatrical drama and classical forms of art to depict commonplace or 'realistic' themes.
1 Realism in literature
Realism is associated with a rejection of fantasy mythology , and highly complex (and, therefore, implausible) plots. Instead, a realist novel will tend to concentrate on 'ordinary people', and feature stories either based on, or similar to, real events. Realists also tend to avoid the linguistic experimentalism of, say, a

London Blue Plaques
Actor and writer Stephen Fry poses outside 54 Eaton Square in London - the former home of actress Vivien Leigh - during the launch of 'Handheld History'  Blue plaques are among the most familiar features of the London streetscape. They adorn the fa§ades of buildings in areas as different as Primrose Hill, Soho and Wimbledon; some of these buildings are grand, others look very ordinary, but all are connected by the fact that a remarkable person lived or worked there at some point in history. Blue plaques celebrate great figures of the past and the buildings that they inhabited. They open a window into another time by showing us where the great and the good have penned their masterpieces, developed new technologies, lived or died. Actors, authors, politicians, painters, scientists, sportsmen, campaigners and reformers – people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds – have all been commemorated in this way. The blue plaques scheme has been run by English Heritage since 1986, and continues to grow at a rate of around twenty plaques each year. From 2004, the scheme will be extended across England on a region-by-region basis; there are already blue plaques in Merseyside, Birmingham, Southampton and Portsmouth.

78. The Victorian Literary Studies Archive, Hyper-Concordance, Concordance, Concorda
Marryat, Frederick (17921864); Meredith, George (1828-1909); Mill, John Stuart (1806-1873); Moore, George (1852-1933); Moore, Thomas (1779-1852)
http://victorian.lang.nagoya-u.ac.jp/concordance.html
This Hyper-Concordance is written in C++, a program that scans and displays lines based on a command entered by the user. The main advantage of the C++ program is that it not only identifies the concordance lines but the words occurring to the left and the right of the word or phrase searched. It also reports the total number of text lines, the total word count and the number of occurrences of the word or phrase searched. The full text of the book is displayed in a box at the bottom of the screen. Each line of the text is numbered, and the line number and the term(s) searched provide a link to the full text. The Hyper-Concordance displays two pull-down boxes. The user can first choose one of a selection of authors from the box and then one from a list of the author's works. There are four limiting options displayed before searching: case sensitive, non-alphabet character sensitive, head length and tail length. The searcher can also ascertain the book's total word count and vocabulary distribution by searching without a query. I hope this web-based KWIC concordance (Key Word in Context) offers a clear survey of Victorian literary texts. Windows 2000/XP and the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer are recommended for the best and quickest viewing of the Hyper-Concordance website. Macintosh users are warned that it can take some time to run the concordance program. After clicking on a line number in the list of "hits," be patient if nothing seems to be happening. It may take a while for the complete text of a long work to be downloaded so that you can navigate in all of it.

The larger part of the collection was purchased from Henry Wenning, New Haven, Conn., during June 1965 and June 1968. "Lesbia," "Little Things," "Notes" and the letters to Andre Brule were purchased from Paul Richards, Brookline, Mass., during June 1968.
