The farm was later owned by Benjamin Kinsey, from whom the cemetery property was purchased. The cemetery was established in 1871. The following is an article written in 1956 about the cemetery: “Springfield Cemetery Opened 85 Years Ago Women’s Institute Aids Trustees and Work Bee Gets Things Done Quickly Springfield - Formerly known as the Kinsey Burying Ground, the Springfield (East) Cemetery on the south part of lot 29, concession 10 in Malahide Township was opened 85 years ago, on May 29, 1871. The burial ground originally contained one acre and is ten by 16 rods. The property was bought from Benjamin Kinsey. Jesse Weaver, Cornelius Neff and David Kinsey were the first trustees, and W. H. Graves was the first secretary-treasurer.

    The Rochester Mausoleum
I.O.O.F. Cemetery The Rochester Mausoleum Company was organized and incorporated on April 8, 1911, for the purpose of constructing and maintaining community mausoleums at and in the vicinity of the City of Rochester, Indiana.
The Rochester Mausoleum was constructed and crypts sold, and bodies accepted for burial therein.
On October 13, 1970, a case was filed in the Fulton Circuit Court, alleging that for more than ten years last past, there had been no elected, qualified and acting officers or directors of the company. Also that for more than 20 years last past, the First National Bank of Rochester, Rochester, Indiana, had acted as trustee of the funds of said company. Also, that the said mausoleum was in a state of extreme disrepair, and constituted a public nuisance and should be removed, requiring the reinterment of all bodies presently interred therein.
In April, 1971, 124 bodies were removed from the Rochester Mausoleum, and reinterred in a mass burial site, along the east side of the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Only three of these have dates.
