The Adcocks came across from England in the Middle 1600's or early 1700s. They were of Scotch Irish decent.
New Information: I orriginally listed John Adcock who married the Carter woman as the first known Adcock.
According to several sources on the internet we can assume that the first known Adcock was John, but it was not the same John. This John was born in 1691 and he married a Carter woman also.
They had 5 children:
I. John Adcock-Born in 1717
II. Edward Adcock-Born in 1721
III. Henry Adcock- Born in 1723
IV. Joseph Adcock-Born: 1727 Died 1782
NOTE: This Joseph Adcock is where our family line comes in. He married Elizabeth Anderson . He had Children: A. John Adcock Sr. He married Mary Carter. They had 7 children: 1. John Adcock Jr. He married Sally Wheeler. They had children: a. Joseph (Pappy Joe) Adcock

[Abarbanell, Jacob Ralph], (New York: Norman L. Munro, 1885). 86 pp., paper.
The DLC catalogue credits Abarbanell (1852-1922) with authorship of this addition to Munro's Library ("Popular Novels Issued in a Convenient Form for the Pocket," Vol. 1, No. 335, April 20, 1885). A New York editor and lawyer, Abarbanell wrote several novels and plays, translated French and German fiction, and compiled a combination joke book and almanac.
Abbott, John S. C., The Life of General Ulysses S. Grant. Containing a Brief But Faithful Narrative of Those Military and Diplomatic Achievements Which Have Entitled Him to the Confidence and Gratitude of His Countrymen
Abbott (1805-1877), a Congregational minister, wrote over fifty books on ethics and history. Prominent among the latter are his biographies of Napoleon (1855) and Frederick the Great (1871); his writings on American history include a two-volume work on the Civil War (1863-1866), and an uncompleted series on the "Pioneers and Patriots of America."
The author's intention was to "present the character of a thoughtful, reserved, taciturn man,a man of tireless energies, of great breadth of comprehension, of the highest order of administrative genius." (4) After brief introductory chapters on Grant's early life, Abbott follows him through the Civil War and concludes with his farewell address to the troops. The text is marked by unoriginality and, even for its day, an extreme tendency towards melodrama.

Written and Published Online by John Silver w/contributing articles by various Silver cousins Greetings to our cousins, family and friends, Old man winter is his revenge on us in the month of February. Hopefully we can look forward to the end of winter and to an early spring. My daffodils are up about 7 inches peeking through our last snowfall. We are expecting another storm on Monday. I have been hearing from a lot of cousins who are finding our web site. This is a great news to me. So, all of you, let us hear from you and your families. The more the merrier. Our database keeps growing day by day. We need to leave our children and grandchildren a record of their ancestors! We have a great story for you in this issue. Cousin Rex’s literary juices are flowing again at a high rate. Cousin Karyl Hubbard has a story about a descendant of George III Silver. John Silver Harris has forwarded a neat story about his travels in Mexico. We also have a short note from Cousin Jo Sparks and news from Cousin Thelma Silver Toarmino Happily there is only one obituary this month.

War Between the States and Reconstruction
1850 to 1870
The American Civil War, along with the Napoleonic Wars and WW2, is a contender for Most-Written War. Considering that it was much shorter than the Napoleonic period, and fought in only part of one continent by two halves of a not-over-populous country, we think that the War Between the States wins. Naturally, this bibliography is not exhaustive, does not dent the surface, indeed is hardly a fingerprint on the surface. If you wish to write about specific battles in detail, in homage to Killer Angels , you are cordially invited to become a Civil War historian. If you want details of everyday life for non-battle stories, you will find a good guide below. Note how many period sources are available in reprint, especially for the re-enactor. This is a period when newspapers and magazines of the period can give you a lot of background detail, like how people of education spoke, and how dialect sounded to them. These periodicals can always be obtained on microfilm. We begin this period in the long tense decade during which the war nearly broke out several times.

INTRODUCTION
An Obituary appears in the Ampleforth Journal as soon as possible after a monk's death: it is usually written by a contemporary, but sometimes by the Abbot, or some one appointed if no contemporaries are available. They are collected here for ease of access, for anyone who wishes to seek information. They also bear a witness of their own to the sort of life which monks follow, and the qualities which grow in those who are faithful to the Rule of St Benedict. As yet we have not included portraits, but those available will be added later. This is the Community's own history, gathered for their own use: but any vistor is welcome to come in and look around, provided it is remembered that it was set up mainly for the family. It was suggested by the publication of Fr Athanasius Allanson's Biographies in 1999, which gave the lives of English Benedictines from ca 1600 to 1850, but this site contains only monks of Ampleforth.
